Aarre Merikanto (Helsinki, june 29, 1893 - Helsinki, september 29, 1958) was a Finnish composer who studied in Leipzig under Max Reger and under Sergei Vasilenko in Moscow. His early compositions are in a modernistic and expressionistic style, his later ones are more neo-classical and conventional. He is most famous for his modernistic orchestral works from the twenties and his opera Juha from 1922.
