ASMR, short for autonomous sensory meridian response, is a phenomenon activated by the human brain as a result of hearing / seeing certain auditory / visual triggers. Several creators have made videos with the intent of triggering the viewer's ASMR, often for sleep aid or relaxation. While ASMR has been known in online communities for years, it has recently experienced a resurgence in popularity, due to more publicity via YouTube creators and media coverage.
As of July 25, 2019, Google Trends reports that South Korea consumes more ASMR content than any other country, with the United States and Canada following behind in a tie for second place.
It is worth noting that "ASMR" is NOT an actual musical artist or band; it is on Last.FM because some users choose to tag their ASMR files with the primary artist as "ASMR," often with the album also set to "ASMR."
