KDA, sometimes stylized as K/DA, is a virtual idol group created by Riot Games (responsible for League of Legends) specifically to promote new skins on the League of Legends game - each skin costs about $10USD. The idol group consists of 2 Korean pop idol singers as well as 2 American pop stars.
The group made their debut on November 3, 2018 with their debut single 『POP/STARS』with a music video that dropped on the League of Legends official YouTube channel, and quickly became a chart topping hit garnering 13 million views within 48 hours of it's release and even topped two popular male K-pop groups who had releases that week - EXO and BTS - as the real life group is promoted as a Korean group, and is counted on Korean music charts.
The real life voices of the group performed alongside their virtual counterparts at the opening of the 2018 World Championships for the game (LoL) in South Korea. In the live performance, the virtual members danced on screen in the background while the final product showed the virtual members and real life voices dancing alongside each other as AI.
The members of the virtual group have their own powers, keeping in touch with their video game roots; their names are Ahri, Akali, Evelynn and Kai'Sa. The group has brought together video game fans, League players, as well as Kpop fans and the general public in support of the virtual idol group.
The group is said to live in an alternate future or universe where the pop music industry has become extremely popular.
