break the rules is an album by Japanese singer Namie Amuro. It is her fifth studio album and the second album to feature songs written and produced by American music producer, Dallas Austin. His role in this album, however, is much smaller than the last. For GENIUS 2000, Austin produced half of the album; with this album, he only produced four songs. The majority of the tracks features compositions from Amuro's main producer, Tetsuya Komuro.
The album reached #2 on the Oricon chart and stayed on the chart for a total of eight weeks. This is Namie Amuro's first album not to reach the #1 spot on the Oricon. The album sold a total of 334,520 copies.
