My first encounter with Crossover was through the cheesy but incredibly catchy song ‘Black Mess‘. They have a new album Gloom coming out in May via Desire, and they have been putting some pretty good remixes up on their Soundcloud lately. My favorite is the remix of ‘How Covld I’ by Mellow Grave (who also did a great job with Deathday’s ‘Blood On A Summer’), but ∆AIMON and Valis remixes are well worth checking out too. The first time I heard witch house was Salem's King Night and I knew instantly that I loved it. The overbearing synths and modern rap beats fused sometimes with angelic vocals and haunting melodies is the perfect music for me. This is subject to change as I have in the past gone through my variable stages of genre obsession. It doesn't change the fact that right now, I love it and I can't get enough of it. I constantly check my list of sites to see what artists or albums have released or will release. I'm following it and expecting it to soon blow up in the mainstream (like dubstep) and then I'll see it everywhere, which I wouldn't really complain about making it easier to access.

There is the undefined nature of the genre. Mixing artists like Salem in with the likes of Air Tycoon (which I don't consider witch house) doesn't make much sense considering their elements are few and far between but I can understand the association. I'll say this upfront: when I look for witch house I don't look for noise…

Revelations
The star track from the stellar new album, a glorious, glittering ballad in the same realms as Fear. Yes, that good, and it has a chorus to match. A yearning, pretty song that like all of this bands greatest tracks, takes it’s own sweet time to unfold, before delivering that killer chorus – and there is barely a vocoder in sight. Those remarkable live shows over the past year have clearly had a considerable impact on the band’s sound, too – while the theme is similar, there is perhaps a bit more of a human touch to the sound, and this is one of a few songs on this album that clearly has been created for live performance at some point. …
