Cairo, Al Qāhirah, Egypt (1902 – 1991)
Born in the Bab El-Sheriyah area of Cairo, Egypt (where his statue stands), Abdel Wahab played ]tag]oud; he also acted in several films, and composed ten songs for أم كلثوم (Oum Kalthoum). He was the first Egyptian singer to move from silent-era acting to singing.
