Agreed, they're still awesome. Ninomiya is a once-in-a-lifetime virtuoso bassist but as great as he was, the defining factor in eastern youth has always been Yoshino and his vocals/guitar style/songwriting. So as long as Yoshino keeps singing, playing and writing like he always has, this band won't change too much. All that said, Muraoka is an awesome bass player. Perhaps not quite on the same level as Ninomiya but she totally rips, for sure.
Not been on here in months but - whilst I've never seen them live - I have to say, the latest album has massively grown on me. I love it. And yes I totally agree - Muraoka is definitely an incredible bassist in their own right.
HOLY CRAP! I hate hyperbole, but right now, after a couple spins, I'd rank the new album easily in their top 3. Feels like going back to the mid nineties, when they were leaving punk, but not quite "shoegaze/punk" yet (is that the appropriate term for their more recent albums?)
uploaded some eastern youth music videos to my youtube channel, straight outta アーカイブス1997-2001 DVD. But for some reason can't link the corresponding videos to their respective songs, anyone wanna help me here? Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/user/myse5mk?feature=mhee#g/u
My copy is shipping today from Yesasia.com, I'll probably get it next week. If ''Dokkoi Ikiteru Machi no Naka'' is any indication, this album might be a bit closer to their punk roots than their more recent stuff.
I bought 雲射抜ケ声 just a while ago and I must say the booklet of that album is one of the most beautiful I've seen. I get goosebumps every time I glance thru it, the photos of it fit so well to the general atmosphere of eastern youth's songs...
There is now less than a week to vote for new artists to join the Japanese Rock Artist League. Click Here for more details!!
I have kinda mixed feelings towards the newest 切合切太陽みたいに輝く single, but I guess it just takes time to grow on me. And I also deeply wonder why they left 東京 out from the newest 歩幅と太陽 album's tracklist even though it's such a great song and they even made a PV outta it. They didn't even release a single from 東京, only recorded version exists in the 極東最前線２ compilation album...
