I'm perplexed by the fact they've never gained any broad world-wide recognition, which upsets me as they nearly don't tour outside of Japan. Their diversity is fascinating! Their art is a source of pure melomaniac pleasure!

Yeah, might be their peak, but i'm not entirely sure. There's something very special about Houyoku to me as well, really different and more laid back compared to their other work. Kuchiki no Tou and Kyuutai would make my top 4 too.

Same here. I have a very vivid memory of listening to '6' on my 512MB mp3 player cycling to school in '06.

They used to be so good, in their prime, now they've been hit or miss for the last 10 years or so. Actually a bit longer than that by now.

Yeah, i mean that's fair, whatever they want to do. I can't change it anyway, i just personally prefer the older stuff and that's all. Kyuutai was their last great album for me, but i still thought Karma was a fun album too :) As for the newer ones, Kowareta Piano is the only one i've liked in full sadly, the other ones had too much filler for my liking :/

the albums after kyuutai that i like are Karma, Myakuhaku and The End of the World, these arent too bad, but also not exactly as good as the albums before

I used to like Myakuhaku better when it was new, but the 2nd half especially had too much filler in there too.

it's another thing what you PERSONALLY PREFER, and what is GOOD OVERALL about MUCC. I won't agree that their old stuff is the only good point. I've carefuly listened all their releases, and as far as by now, WHOLE discography is great by all qualities of music stands. Diverse, experimental, and still with their original touch and style without losing appeal and meaning. As for personal preferences, I also am adoring more their old, visual kei days, but still, find really attractive their new stuff. Esp recent albums which are really hardcore, with effects and techno/electro style. It depends on a person, but it is almost rude to say that part of an artist's discography is bad just because you personally didn't find it appealing. Thou I hope you can love new songs too, if your music mode goes more wider x)

I never implied it as "a matter of fact" or anything like that, that's why i said i personally prefer the older stuff. It's not like i can change their musical direction anyway, i can just listen to their older work, but i also happen to know i'm not nearly the only one who thinks that of their more recent work. It's cool if you like it tho, i really appreciate that cuz it's just something i can't get into, aside from some select tracks, no matter how hard i try! :)

I mean i personally love everything up to Kyuutai, or even Karma really, that was a fun album for what it is too. I might have to listen to Shangri-La again too, but i remember that one having a couple filler tracks too already at the very least. However, apart from Kowareta Piano to Living Dead (which was an enjoyable album overall to me), i feel every post-Shangri-La album has way too much filler to keep me interested throughout the entire album. They still have some killer tunes here and there, but i've kinda lost interest in their albums at this point, so i didn't even check the latest one. Especially knowing that Satochi left the band, i don't have high expectations for that. Again, just to make it clear, i'm not saying anyone else should agree with me or anything, and i never meant to imply it that way. These are all just my opinions, if that has to be said separately.

Gonna miss you, SATOち. Thanks for being such an integral part of the great MUCC experience!

MUCC is one of those bands where once you become a fan, you're in it for the long run. They were one of the first VK bands I ever checked out and my appreciation for their artistry has only grown over the years.

A very old mucc fan, and while I generally appreciate bands growing and exploring new sounds, mucc really lost me for many years. Definitely appreciate the flirt with their old sound on the new album. Old mucc still has a grip on my heart and soul like few other bands.

I feel exactly the same. Been listening to them since '05 or '06 and their old stuff will always have a special place.

Haha, I'm one of the grandpa fans, and after a decade of "meh", I am indeed surprised and pleased again! Didn't think I would ever care about a release by them again.

Thanks for pointing that out! It went kinda under my radar, since there was so much metalcore breakdowns/electronic-heavy stuff in previous years that I kinda stopped paying close attention to what they were doing. I'm listening to it right now and it does sound nice so far - cheers!

oh MUCC, you were very important for me from high school to university studying Japanese language, until 2008. I loved the music, the lyrics, the ambiance, so dark, so negative about humanity. I remember seeing you in a concert at Bordeaux. It was so unexpected to see my favorite band in my city back then. I really liked you until Gokusai, Shion and Kyutai were ok for some songs, but not so much my type anymore. I might be too old for your new music style, but I still like to listen to your old albums. I've tried to get into the new MUCC, recently again, but I can't. But, nevermind, I still have your first albums. So, I'm thankful to you for those treasures.

Loved shelter. Perfect summer album that takes its righteous spot in their discography and ideal record to trigger people with. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

@ CloudGer Thank you for thn advice. I should give it a try soon. I've read some similar comments to yours about the new album. And also thank yyu, for making me discovering Haru Nemuri. I checked your profile and were attracted by this name (don't know why !). I listened on youtube almost all her songs and bought her album yesterday. @ Kumanosuke Are you talking to me ? About Shelter, this is a reallydifficult album for me. I went to see them live during the Shelter tour. I think this is the one I listen the less, but recently I'm going back to it. Anyway, I can't wait for the new one, and I hope they'll come back to Tokyo.

Really happy to hear. I went through a similar process where I got mesmerized and then completely sucked into her last album.
