Dic 29 2008, 17:10 di barnzieeMy mixtape of 2008 will be up sometime in the next few weeks...
Until then here are my favorite albums that came out this year
1. Young Widows - old wounds
By far my favorite release this year. So catchy, so fun, so Jesus Lizard. (but better) I have been following these guys for a while now even though accidentally (breather resist, national acrobat, black widows). Their last album is a fun record of half annoying half addicting repetition, settle down city is a song that stays with you and won't let go. Yet now that Old Wounds came out I just don't care about their old stuff. This is a great album that I think is catchy enough that a non-metal or hardcore fan could still possibly enjoy. Plus this was one of the best live shows. the bass tone live is like times 10.
2. Ratatat - LP3
Having thought they were another white hip-hop group I had ignored their past releases... oops. I think it's time to do some history research.
3. Mouth of the Architect - Quietly
Dic 22 2008, 0:47 di KMFCM2008 fucking sucked. . . . . . . . . . .
. . .and as we all know, bad years make for DAMN GOOD TUNES
and that's good, because tunes were pretty much the only good thing about this year.
(jury is still out on certain historic events for this brotha here)
This year gave all us musical late bloomers a chance to experience former glory with the likes of Carcass, My Bloody Valentine, Polvo, Vision of Disorder, At the Gates, Hellnation, Overcast and quite a few more (and I didn't get to see Polvo)
returning to the stage, some of them possibly permanently (Earth Crisis, Vision of Disorder and Flesh Parade are among those making new albums as we speak. . . . . . and apparently MBV will too. Stranger things have happened, Chinese Democracy came out.)
Of course, everyone I talk to is BURNED THE FUCK OUT and can't think of TWO things they liked this year. . .
meanwhile, I liked so much shit, I actually have a top 40. . . . . .
Ago 11 2008, 23:01 di KMFCMthere are people on my friend list that hate the new design
and I've seen people on shoutboxes that actually like it
ya know, personally, I could take it or leave it.
I mean, yesterday, it would NOT go to "post a new journal"
It did that crap where firefox thinks the file is done, but the screen is blank.
honestly though, my only real problem with the new last.fm design is that they spent all that time redesigning the look of the site,
when they could've been figuring out a way to deal with bands that share names
what's that about?
why don't you guys deal with that first?
that's the biggest problem on this site
it'd cut down on trolling at least 20%
think about that
. . .and now, to spread this post the last.fm way
Phobia, Architect, Ceremony, S, Romans, Ragnarok, Disgorge, From Hell, Spitfire, Portal, Subhumans, Elysia, Middian, Ｓ, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Rotten Sound, DIR EN GREY, Antigama, Metallica…
Giu 20 2008, 23:53 di AndyChrzOfficial press release:Black Market Activities proudly announces the addition of Sweet Cobra to the family. The band's Hawthorne Street Records release, "Forever," will be reissued through Black Market Activities on June 24th.
An admiration for '70s inspired groove rock and remnants of a hardcore driven past brewed the foundation for Sweet Cobra. The mind-boggling grooves and sludgy, down-trodden guitar riffs make avoiding toe-tapping nearly inescapable. Driven by murky grooves, Sweet Cobra incorporates the disgruntled fervor of hardcore as the finishing touch.
Sweet Cobra formed in 2002 with drummer Jason Gagovski (Suicide Note) and vocalist/bassist Botchy Vasquez (The Killer). Guitarists Robert Lanham and Matt Arluck later joined on to complete the line-up. The band made its debut on Seventh Rule Recordings with Praise, introducing Sweet Cobra's boundary defying sound. Picking up where Praise left off is 2007's "Forever," originally released through Hawthorne Street Records. …
Apr 4 2008, 3:18 di KMFCM1. Remember I said Nights Like These pulled the best 180 ever last year with their album "sunlight at secondhand"? I think someone might top them this year. Someone you or I could never have expected.
. . .
They got a new song on their myspace. It's not deathcore at all. It sounds like... .well. . .Nights Like These's new shit.
If the rest of the album is as good as that song, watch out.
Then again, they're on Ferret. . .will it even get promoted? Ferret records is like Victory records little twin brother or something these days. They both only sign/promote TERRIBLE bands anymore (well, okay, I like Dead To Fall. Tell me, did "are you serious?" get it's own TV ad like The Autumn Offering and A Day to Remember did??). I don't know what Suicide Note hang around there for. Last good band they signed was either Zao or Misery Signals. . .they were around the same time I think.

Hassan I Sabbah was a hardcore band that existed from around 1998-2001, featuring ex-members of Force Fed Glass, Puritan, Prevail, and Rinse. Their drummer went on to play in The Red Chord and Unearth and the singer to Otesanek. They were Zac, Mike, Ryan, Tommy and Chad. Emotional, Sludgy, Fast, Desperate.
Ok, so a lot of people like this band, but can't get hold of the real albums. And since I hate unnoficial "discographies", I decided to break down that discography which is floating around on P2P programs, and add the stuff that is missing.
• Self-Titled ? Cassette - Self-Released
All I know is that this has three songs. I've been trying to track it down unsuccesfully for a while. I think "Epilepsy as Performance Art" was on this, but I'm not sure.
• Self-Titled Cassette - Self-Released
1. Yella' Sun, Cold Morning
3. Not So in Tune with Shells
Mar 22 2007, 3:12 di nylarotepEpisode #8 tracklisting is up!
This episode is a Part Two of sorts to Episode #7. It's a pretty claustrophobic mix as a whole, there's really no room to stop for air, which I think contrasts nicely with a lot of the drone and ambience present in the last episode.
Episodes #4 and #6 are finally available as mp3 links (no more zShare or Upload.sc) from Sounds of the Apocalypse, as well as the iTunes store (free of course).
