Elliott Smith (1969-2003) Presumed suicide. Smith died from two stab wounds to the chest. According to girlfriend Jennifer Chiba—with whom he was sharing an apartment at the time—the two were arguing, and she locked herself in the bathroom to take a shower. Chiba heard him scream, and upon opening the door, saw Smith standing with a knife in his chest. She pulled the knife out, after which he collapsed and she called 911. Smith died in the hospital. While Smith's death was originally reported as a suicide, the official autopsy report left open the question of possible homicide. The coroner's report revealed that no traces of illegal substances or alcohol were found in his system at the time of his death, but did find prescribed levels of antidepressant and attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder medications in his system, including Clonazepam, Mirtazapine, Atomoxetine and Amphetamine. …

1 Antony and the Johnsons - The Crying Light
(2009)
The black-and-white image of legendary Butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno that adorns the cover of The Crying Light, the third full-length by Antony and the Johnsons, seems to offer a view of a being enveloped in both ecstasy and agony -- or does it? The songs contained here offer something else: a glimpse of a universe beyond the pale of vision, seen only by the individual experiencing it. Neo-classical underpinnings are entwined lovingly with broken pop songs and secretive after-hours cabaret poems. Check the opener, "Her Eyes Are Underneath the Ground". The piano and cello fall together as one slow dancer, alone in the spotlight, keeping memory as time: "In the garden, with my mother/I stole a flower/With my mother, in her power/I chose a flower/I saw six eyes glistening in my womb/I felt you calling me in the gloom/Rest assured your love is pure.... … -

Famous Dead Musicians/Artists and Causes of Death (Pt 2, Age 37-50)
Feb 13 2012, 12:18 di thomas10
This is an article in which I tried to bundle all the great losses of rock'n roll and modern music. That means all the musicians which are worldwide known and died at young age (before 51 years old). I tried to give a little information about the way they died. Most of the information I got from Wikipedia. When someone thinks I forgot an artist or that the information is incorrect... I'm open for new information.
The list is in order of age of dying
For the artists younger than 37 I'll recommend you Pt 1;

solipsistic NATION No. 203: Crammed Discs

http://solipsisticnation.com/images/photo-crammeddiscs-M.jpg
Each month I showcase a music label that puts out amazing releases you absolutely need to know about. Today on solipsistic NATION I'll play select tracks from Crammed Discs.
Usually this would be pretty straight forward but in the case of Crammed Discs it's a challenge. Crammed Discs has been around for 30 years now and in that time they've released over 265 albums and 250 singles. Furthermore, Crammed Discs features artists from all over the world, from the Balkans to Africa, from South America to the Middle East and beyond. How do encompass all of that in a one hour program.
The simple answer is that it can't be done. Fortunately I had Marc Hollander, the label's founder, join me on today's show and guide the way!
Crammed Discs was founded in 1980 by Marc and the first release was Marc and Vincent Kenis' band, Aksak Maboul. Since then Crammed Discs and its sub-labels Ziriguiboom, Ssr Records… -
Andrea Marquee and authenticity
Mag 9 2010, 16:49 di blogmeridian
Not that anyone reading this should have noticed, but I have spent this morning adding content to the artist page for Andrea Marquee, a Brazilian singer I'm quite fond of who has a grand total of one album available in the United States, Zumbi. But anyone rushing over to that page will probably wonder what the big deal is--you'll see some cut-and-pasted content from National Geographic (which they got from Calabash Music (now MondoMusic), a link to Last.fm's Portuguese-language wiki page, and another picture. So, really, it'd be more accurate to say that I've been trying to find content to add. Speaking of which: Here is the link to Zumbi's page on Amazon, with all of three reviews, one of which I added just this morning.
But I'm posting this not because of the above but because of some commentary I ran across in a couple of reviews for another record that Marquee's music appears on, a sampler called Brasil 2mil. This appears to be a pretty good survey of contemporary Brazilian music; artists include Bebel Gilberto… -
