Biografia
Oprachina is a neologism made up of the two words opra (opera) and china (bowed), meaning alienating, back-breaking work. Coined in the first half of the 20th century, the term features in the Italian version of the "Internationale" as well as other tracts of the period. Oprachina are committed to the continuous pursuit of an equilibrium between written passages and free improvisation, helping to develop a contemporary musical language.
Their first creation, "The Jazz Farm" (2007), published under the Creative Commons licence, was hailed at the 2009 Cannes Midem as the most popular Italian album by the Jamendo portal (200.000 web downloads).
Two songs of this album were chosen for the movie soudtrack:
"Mountains That Take Wing", a conversation with Angela Davis and Yuri Kochiyama.
The second album was produced by the British label Slam of George Haslam.
Massimo Bognetti: Guitars. Directs the Etnofonie school of music.
Errico De Fabritiis: Saxes. Committed to improvised and contemporary music, he has figured in Musica Jazz magazine's "Top Ten" of musician-revelations in 2009 and 2010.
Fabio Fochesato: Bass guitar, double bass, arrangements. Has his fingers in various musical languages, from jazz to rock, world music to classic and contemporary music.
Adriano Galinari: Percussion. Has collaborated with many Italian and foreign musicians, including the never-to-be-forgotten Massimo Urbani.
The Italian quartet Oprachina has moved the first steps during recent editions of “Along
Came Jazz, Research In Italy” organised in Tivoli and Rome.
Massimo Bognetti: guitar, director of Music School Etnofonie in Rome, he conducted
several workshops on music figures of Demetrio Stratos, Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy,
Thelonius Monk, Soft Machine. Years ago the has successfully tackled a monographic
research on the compositions of Wayne Shorter.
He directed for the “Intuitive Insight” produced by Nello Mangiameli a collection of songs
in two Cds for autopoietic dance.

De Fabritiis: saxophone, mentioned on Top Italian Jazz 2009 and 2010, teacher, graduated in
saxophone at the Conservatory of Pescara D'Annunzio, lives in Rome, where he worked
with musicians of different backgrounds. He committed within the contemporary and
improvised music; recently he has directed the project “Bus Ned Revolution”.
With the singer and the poet Silvana Licursi M. Jatosti, set up the show Mediterranean and
performed in numerous national and international. With guitarist Giovanni Palombo, he
founded the Zen Bel Jazz Quintet with which he performs a concert live for Vatican Radio
and records the record job Zen Bel Jazz and some original songs as well have been arranged
and re-proposed by ISO Ensemble Orchestra conducted by Paolo Damiani at the Comunal
Thater of Matera.
It is currently engaged in improvised music and contemporary art. Recently he directed the
project “Bus Ned Revolution” and has partecipated as saxophone recording of “The Fire
Ned” edited by Gianfranco Tedeschi. With the Ensemble Qwert, attended the premiere of
the work: Guernica of Daniele Del Monaco, at the American Academy in Rome, inside the
Festival of New Consonance 2007, and Simurgh Opera for solo voice and small orchestra .
Fabio Fochesato: bass and double bass, teacher, working expecially in jazz and
contemporary music. He’s a member of “Plectrum Orchestra del Circolo Mandolinistico
Costantino Bertucci” (plectrums with double bass string performing a large repertory of
baroque and contemporary music) and the new “Banda Larga Big Band” direct by Elvio
Ghigliordini (PMJO Auditorium Rome).
Adriano Galinari: drums; teacher, and he has participated in numerous jazz events, with
many italian and foreign musicians, among them, never forgot, the saxophonist Massimo
Urbani.
In Oprachina’s original compositions jazz is the connecting element between the obligatory
written parts and the improvised ones.
"THE JAZZ FARM", their first "virtual" album with some pieces written and others
completely improvised, can still be found on the web. To date over 100.000 people all round
the world have included it in their playlists and sold more than two thousand commercial
licenses, ranging from environmental sound effects, a public place, sound websites, theater,
film soundtracks, documentaries, advertising films, both on dvd and television channels,
mainly europeans, americans and japanese.
