Alexandria, VA – Orange River Records recording artist André Akinyele is slated to release Metal Skin and Ivory Birds on February 24, 2015. A special online listening event for the new album will take place on YouTube (Search: André Akinyele) on Monday, Midnight, February 23rd at 12:00 A.M. This listening event is offered as a First Listen Experience before its official worldwide release the following day on Tuesday, February 24, 2015.

Metal Skin and Ivory Birds is organic soul food for the heart and mind with its refreshing and powerful questioning of the world, where no one or nothing is off limits. The 12 track CD is hauntingly beautiful and compelling, and is based on observations and life experiences of recent world events. If that weren’t enough, the album features a passionate cover of Tori Amos' "Crucify" and is musically inspired by Joni Mitchell's 1975 album The Hissing of Summer Lawns. Metal Skin and Ivory Birds was produced, arranged, composed, and performed by André Akinyele and features pianist Jon O’Bergh, The New Jazz Horns, Holmes Run Orchestra, and percussionist Earl Jones.

André Akinyele, the pioneering force of the cyber-jazz movement of the mid-to late '00s with his band Gemini Soul, merged musical technology with jazz, funk, fusion, and political topical experimentation; along the lines of such artists as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Meshell Ndegeocello. But with his latest effort, he is offering a singer-songwriter approach just as Joni Mitchell, Curtis Mayfield, Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Fela Kuti, Marvin Gaye, and Gil Scott-Heron did by tackling social issues of the time. Akinyele states "it's an album that questions; especially, the state of the music industry, suicide, religion, spirituality, self-awareness, politics, etc. I want this album to spark conversation."

In support of the release, André Akinyele will launch a new website, produce music videos, a mini-documentary, garner an extensive online presence, and conclude the campaign with burying the CD as a time capsule in a secret location to reflect the times.

Metal Skin and Ivory Birds will be available in digital and physical formats on the online retail sites CD Baby, Amazon, iTunes, and other major online retailers.

The new album marks André Akinyele’s return following his 2012 critically acclaimed project The Potomac Syndrome, which was a return to his funk roots and Prince influenced sound with a nod to Lenny Kravitz. But, Metal Skin and Ivory Birds may be one of the most honest albums ever recorded.
