The Beach Comes From Above With Tales Of Love

Here at Last.fm we spend pretty much all day listening to music, but every now and then, we come across a handful of artists that really stand out. With Discovery of the Week, we bring you the music that we feel deserves to be highlighted. This week, Miguel (aka pellitero) introduces The Beach...

Over four years ago a young singer-songwriter from London named George Morgan quietly started uploading his efforts online while gigging around the city performing at open mic nights. Morgan did of course want for as many people as possible to listen to his music, but instead of masterminding a digital promo strategy, he opted for the live route.

The Clapham-based teenager had to repeatedly to bother his neighbour to recover the football he had kicked into his garden. As it happened, the neighbour turned out to be a record producer and through time, a musical partnership was born.

Still without a management team in place, The Beach was signed by RCA/Sony Music after a YouTube upload. The label's trust wasn't misplaced, and in February 2015, Morgan's debut single “Thieves" (produced by Max Honsinger) was featured on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show as the Next Hype.

The partnership with Honsinger led to him being credited as writer for The Beach. Morgan's song-writing often transforms after the initial track production, which quickly led us to follow-up "From Above".

“From Above" was premiered in April and it got Morgan his first top 20 entry on the Last.fm Hype Chart for the US.

Morgan is currently flanked live by three musicians, who faithfully re-create The Beach's sound as demonstrated at The Great Escape Festival and the band's first headline show in London. While we wait for the third single and first EP, both tentatively named “Maybe", you can catch The Beach live at selected dates of “Tom Odell's Forest Tour", supporting James Bay at London's Somerset House Summer Sessions and Y Not Festival.
