Nobody's got the audacity to say it. Most of the lyrics are fucking cringe. To the point where they actually affect the quality of the songs despite guitar playing as monster as Eddie Van Halen's and impeccable mixing.

I would definitely say I like Van Halen's music in spite of the lyrics, it might also be the reason why I don't really love an entire album of theirs but only certain songs. But at the same time especially someone like DLR is just so iconic in his role as singer for the band, Van Halen wouldn't have become the legend they have become without him.

I think Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and KISS have influenced many hard rock / hair metal bands and are responsible for that. But then again, even prog and many subgenres of metal can go there. Your top artist is Prince and 90%of his catalog is not that different from hair metal artists, in fact, he's a nice parallel because nobody can deny his talent either, despite the cringe lyrics. I used to be conflicted about this, thinking it indicated a lack of taste, but eh, at least, most of the artists from that are made up for it with their technical skills

So glad "a different kind of truth" is back to stream, really great ending note to VH :) They revisited old ideas and really pulled it off, Alex VH absolutely destroys on that entire record.

No matter the album, Eddie Van Halen's guitar wizardry is always mindblowing for me. Almost every song they did is jampacked full of insane riffs and solos, and honestly Alex Van Halen deserves way more respect as a drummer his live drum solos are pretty fantastic and the double bass drum work on "Hot For Teacher" is insane, and ofc the drum solo on "Light Up The Sky" is phenomenal.

Van Hagar is arguably where VH was at its peak. DLR was a great frontman, but Hagar allowed them to expand

A band from an era where rock music was actually fun. Not this miserable and whiny shite we get fed today. 🤮

Eddie's guitar techniques are genius and impressive, Alex Van Halen's drumming is also stellar. But lyrically they got this fun party vibe. Great band

I do like carnal knowledge, not as big on 5150 but all their post DLR albums have their moments :) I actually like VH3 more than most.

Roth was better as a live frontman than he was a singer, and all the early albums sound way too similar. Hagar allowed them to explore more routes (Right Now, Dreams, Can't Stop Loving You). Cherone just sucked at being original

Id disagree on sounding too similar, I agree wit the notion they peaked with Dave but had a lot of great songs with Hagar (i love 5150 and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge) but I cant stand OU812

Brilliantly said :) Without Roth they lost their edge and became "friendly". No more taking whiskey to the party looking for a semi-good looking girl to squeeze :(

Não fazia ideia que o Van halen era tão bom até o Red hot fazer aquela homenagem. Nunca gostei da música Jump, mas os dois primeiros álbuns pegam pesado

Im guessing since its the only one published by a different company than Warner Bros. so there's copyright disputes

One of the best rock bands to ever exist, I love the DLR era and I like a couple Sammy albums too! I miss Eddie.

Their cover of You Really Got Me is fantastic. There's a certain way Eddie plays it and that was one of the first songs I learned to play on the electric guitar. I believe I learned how to play The Kinks way of playing it and then Eddie's way of playing it. Eruption was another early song I learned to play on the electric guitar as well.
