• Hold Steady Lyrics

The Hold Steady writes truly incredible lyrics. Here is a list of some of my favorites.

They say you don't have a problem until you start to do it alone.
They say you don't have a problem until you start bringing it home.
They say you don't have a problem until you start sleeping alone.
You Can Make Him Like You

Silly rabbit, tripping is for teenagers.
    Cattle and the Creeping Things

Youth services always finds a way to get their bloody cross into your druggy little messed up teenage life.
    Multitude of Casualties

I had my mouth on her nose when the chaperone said we were dancing too close.
    Massive Night

She was a really cool kisser and she wasn't all that strict of a Christian.
She was a damn good dancer but she wasn't all that great of a girlfriend.
    Stuck Between Stations

Half naked and three quarters wasted. she was completely alone...
...He said take a hit. hold your breath and i'll dunk your head. then when you wake up again. you'll be high as hell and born again.

Fri 16 Jul – The Hold Steady @ Phoenix

From my blog: My Aimz is True

You know you are a ridiculous fan-girl of The Hold Steady when you notice that lead singer Craig Finn has a new guitar. If memory serves, this was my fifth Hold Steady show (I think, I was drunk as hell at all of those shows), so I knew what to expect. Rock, jumping around, singalongs, Finn being geeky, Tad Kubler being a guitar god, spilled beer, and more rock. And in short, I got exactly what I expected.

However, this was the first time that I had seen THS since the departure of Franz Nicolay, the multi-talented instrumentalist who played with THS for the previous five years. I'm a big fan of rock piano, and I really loved Nicolay's keyboards in previous shows and records. For this show, THS had a touring keyboardist, but he was way in the back and I couldn't get a good look at him. After scouring the THS web forum, no one else seems to know who he was either. Regardless, I missed Nicolay, and I felt that the live keyboard parts were weak without him.

Tue 11 Nov – The Hold Steady, Drive-By Truckers

Bad haircuts. Geeky glasses. Horrible fashion sense. Am I describing myself or the rock band, The Hold Steady? The answer is "Yes" (except for keyboardist Franz Nicolay - that dude is stylin'!). But don't ever accuse the dorks (or their nerdy fans) of not bringing the rock.

I have to admit that when I found out that two of the best live bands that I had ever seen were touring together, I peed my pants a little in excitement. The Hold Steady and the Drive-By Truckers are touring together this fall on the "Rock and Roll Means Well" tour, the line taken out of the Trucker's song Marry Me. The two bands are alternating headline acts, with The Hold Steady opening in Toronto at the Phoenix Concert Hall.

They kicked open their set with Stuck Between Stations from their epic 2006 album Boys And Girls In America, and rocked many tracks off of their latest release Stay Positive. In addition they played many songs from their older albums, much to my delight. …

This is the first in a series of Point/Counterpoint reviews that me and Lexxxi will write. Our goal is to attend and review as many concerts in the New Haven area as possible.

The Hold Steady / Thunderbirds Are Now!
    BAR, New Haven, CT

    Point, by Nat

An unassuming, little roundish man loaded Thunderbirds are Now!'s gear on to the small stage in the back room of BAR. Lexi and I commented on how cute and awesome we thought their roadie was. Little did we know what was about to happen. Instantaneously and magically, this little man changed personas and became the manic and energetic front man for Thunderbirds are Now! The Detroit, Michican group delivered a hyperactive and possibly amphetamine-aided short blast of largely unintelligible lyrics and DancePunk beats. The tracks that I recognized from their newest critically-acclaimed album, Justamustache, were accelerated to frenetic speeds. It was amazing just watch the drummer try to keep up. …
