With this album, Sting goes out of his usual pop and jazz styles. He investigates elisabethain music with the unique help of his voice, which takes for this occasion a clear and humble timbre. With the help of the virtuose luthist Edin Karamazov, the repertoire of John Dowland (a XVIth century english songwriter) is revisted, through rearranged songs and instrumentals. This album also contains parts of Dowland's letters (pronounced by Sting himslelf), which are used as a guideline.
