    Eddie Vedder

Listening to one of my Christmas gifts this afternoon. Into The Wild. While watching the film all the Vedder songs seemed to blend together, probably because I was saw so awed by the cinematography and scenery of Alex Supertramp's journey.

I like the album quite a bit more than I thought I would. The songs are varied, not one-note humms and ahhs that I imagined it would be. That's the thing about this, there are songs on here. First time through, "Rise", "Hard Sun", "Society", and "Guaranteed" stand out. I could have picked any of them for song of the day, but "Rise" has ukelele and reminded me of the Pearl Jam song "Soon Forget", which also deals with material possesions.

"Soon Forget" could have fit on Into The Wild. The man attaining possessions will be soon forgotten, while Chris Mccandless will live on, thanks in large part to Jon Krakauer, Sean Penn, and Eddie Vedder.

Edward Abbey's legendary novel, "The Monkey Wrench Gang," is mere months away from production. The novel is about a group of Utah environmentalists who are fed up with the overdevelopment of the region's canyonlands and who want to destroy the Glen Canyon Dam to drain Lake Powell.

"The characters are very hysterical, they're very funny, very eccentric and just a blast to read," the film's director, Catherine Hardwicke, said. "So it's not preachy. It's a wild rumpus, an anarchist's romp, about people that care passionately about the land."

The novel, published in 1975, is an edgy, comedic story about a four-man gang that attacks trains and bulldozers. …
