• 2000 - 5 picks from my personal collection

    18 août 2014, 11h43m par Jim_Lithium

Surprisingly solid year for music. I could have come up with quite a few different combinations of five albums but all of the below choices were pretty much nobrainers. Undeniable classics.

    Electric Wizard - Dopethrone

Is this not the heaviest and most legendary Electric Wizard album? I cannot think of another album cover that personifies the music as perfectly. It is impossible to listen to Dopethrone on low volume. An all-time classic release for stoner and doom fans. Heaviest, slowest, most drugged up horror-inspired doom metal ever.

    Pantera - Reinventing the Steel

Aptly named and energetic release from Pantera. What a shame it ended up being their last. Unrelentingly heavy and consistent throughout. The band's last album seems to be their most overlooked which is a shame as it includes some of their best work. …

  • Mix Tape: Stronger Than All--Stronger Than ALL!

    5 sept. 2008, 5h24m par xynobia

So since I posted my last mixtape blog, I've assembled quite a few mixtapes, and most of them are pretty quality, if I say so myself (I just did, bitches!). My most recent creation, however, is one that's been in the mix for a long time: a Pantera best-of. Although this tape doesn't necessitate the same sort of story/defensive tirade that accompanied my ABBA mix tape, I will say a few words before posting the tracklist.

First of all, if I had to come up with a list of top 5 desert island bands, right now, Pantera would be one of three 'true' metal bands I'd even consider putting on there. Sabbath is the other, and to a lesser extent, Slayer. I've been listening to Pantera for nearly a decade now, and they're one of those bands that are just the right combination of nostalgic thrill and timeless appeal that I still play the shit out of them. I think this is what Phil was getting at when he wrote the lyrics to "Goddamn Electric", and critics be damned, he was onto something.
  • 50 questions about my top 50 artists...

    20 août 2008, 19h30m par Blessedheart

I 'nicked' this from my brother (Ad_nauseam, or 'ginger scum' as he's known to the police).

    1. How did you get into 29? (Arch Enemy)

I first heard them on MTV2's 'Headbanger's Ball' and wasn't overly impressed. Then I heard them again and was.

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22? (Radiohead)

You're asking me to transport myself back in time by about thirteen or fourteen years. I may well be wrong but my guess would be Street Spirit (Fade Out)

    3. What’s your favorite lyric by 33? (Carcass)

Dunno. Probably something about cutting up dead bodies and then microwaving them.

    4. What is your favorite album by 49? (Nirvana)

Bleach or In Utero. That band was much better raw.

    5. How many albums by 13 do you own? (Ulver)

    Basically all of them.

    6. What is your favorite song by 50? (Foo Fighters)

    7. Is there a song by 39 that makes you sad? (Sepultura)

    Hell no!

    8. What is your favorite album by 15? (Candlemass)

  • The Revolution Project (Opera of Innovation)

    3 avr. 2006, 14h41m par RyanManDS

So I was working as normal the other day, and I had Revolution stuck in my head. It's a great song, so I didn't mind it being there. But then I was struck by a stroke of genius. Maybe not genius per se, but it was at least an interesting means to an end.

Lately I've been "trying out" all sorts of new music in an effort to expand both my library and my tastes. You know, diversity and all. But it was then, while I was pulling shit back and forth (as that is pretty much all of my job) that I came up with my ingenious plan to find a whole load of music at once. There were three phases involved in my plan, much like how the Underpants Gnomes operate.

Phase one was already complete by the time I rightly began the project. It was simply to come up with a single word. For various reasons (Mostly because I'm getting hyped about the Nintendo Revolution (Yeah I'm a nerd, so sue me)), I chose the word "revolution" as my key word. It would play a very vital role in my plan.
  • The 100-to-1 Group's Artist of the Week: Pantera

    26 sept. 2005, 22h53m par Ullic

Well folks, it looks we finally have some charts to see in the 100-to-1 Group! And if I counted correctly, Pantera is in position 100 on our overall charts making them our Artist of the Week! So choose your favourite Pantera tune (or the one you hate the least, I suppose) and play it sometime this week. I will contribute to the cause with either Revolution Is My Name or Cat Scratch Fever.
