Always amazed by bands that soldier on for extended periods of time with small devoted fanbases but just passionately pump out great records every couple years. Lucky to have acts like this in the world.

Hen Ai LET'S GO! 2 is... actually not too bad? first one's not great. second feel like "signature" POLYSICS imo. however, nothing really stands out. while I like how all the songs sound, nothing stands out at all. music that blurs together isn't very interesting. I'm giving "What's This???" another shot after reading the shouts here... lol I didn't like it much first try and gave up after a few songs.

I'm loving 'What This???' too... i'm a recent POLYSICS fan, but I have bought/imported all their albums very quickly. For me 'Karate House' and 'Now is the Time!' are their best, but different strokes and all that..... they have done a lot of stuff!!

"What's This???" has been released internationally today. Can't think of why it was a couple of days late. Anyway it seems like it's easily their best album. From releasing "Action!!!"--how many exclamation marks was it again?--they've been improving a lot. "15th P!" was a bleak time but POLYSICS they've more than recovered.

New EP, where are you? I think it's the Dr Pepper trademark that is keeping this from coming to American digital markets. I had to jump through hoops just to watch the music video for it. (The song & video aren't very good, by the way. Polysics is slipping back into that "goofy/silly" kind of weird, which does not creatively suit them.)

Album is great. A bit samey, but the synths sound more dense and crunchy than they have in a long time. It won't be a big hit with people who prefer the last 10 years of the band. There is no "Let's..." "Lucky Star" or any other kind of "have fun and sing along with us" singles on it. Just radio unfriendly "keep up, if you can" sonic speed rocking out.

Actually, I might've been too harsh with MOD. It's roughly the same price as a single so it could be a generous offering by the POLYSICS party and/or it would get more attention from people as it has more tracks. The main--and probably only--problem I have with it is if Ki/oon/K-On/Whatever decided to push Action!!!'s (damn I don't even know how to punctuate that) back so they could market MOD more. It's into a new year and so makes it look like POLYSICS is on the decline with outputting less. Obviously POLYSICS could release another album in 2014 but...lol, I can't see them doing that.

I'm tilting my head in curiosity at what "Action!!!" will be like. It's available internationally on Amazon in MP3 form. They should really be sending out a newsletter informing people of this. I personally think MOD was a mistake. They should've just had the other four songs as b-sides on two singles and financially that would probably be better for them. Instead their discography continues to look messy after the departure of Kayo, we have a crappy music video for "Turbo Drive", and "Action!!!" appears short (but is actually long for a POLYSICS album).

Mega Overdrive seems to take the best of their earlier punk sound and cross it with the heavy synth use they're characterized by today, i.e. it's pretty fucking great and worth a listen.

"I'm wondering if people think they mellowed down after making Neu" - agreed, but then again they made National P after that (which is sometimes even more abrasive than Neu). I think the point of the band is always to try and break new ground and create a distinctive sound with very album. As much as i'd love for them to keep making Neu over and over again, settling down just isn't their intent.

"I like synth-pop. Which album should I start with?" - They're not much of a synth-pop ballad band, but Eno and For Young Electric Pop has the closest thing to that with songs like Code 4 and Commodoll. But even then they're drawing more from bands like Kraftwerk than Duran Duran or whatever.

Their latest album is decent and has synth pop tracks in it. A.D.S.R.M! and Neu are pretty punk. For Young Electric Pop, I think they explicitly stated they wanted to make this a pop album but it sounds dated even compared to their earlier work. Beyond those it's hard to rate the rest as there is a lot of variety and each have synth pop tracks. They've always been a good band but I'm wondering if people think they mellowed down after making Neu when they've just diversified and distincted(?) themselves. As for their genre, the Wikipedia entry makes it confusing but they are new wave.

I've heard a lot of bickering about their new sound and their old sound and I'm not sure where to start. OK. I like synth-pop. Which album should I start with?

True, but they are Japanese and rock-based... Regardless, I think we can all agree that they deserve a lot more fans. And I mean a LOT more fans.
