saddest. album. ever. 10/10. one of the greatest ever. i feel like it was sorta pushed to the wayside after it lingered in the mainstream thanks to Arthur's death, but it's just so perfect. i don't think i've ever heard a more desolate album in my life. it's so gutwrenching, wary, innocent, sick and beautiful. just ... this means so much to me.

Amazing album, but it’s almost too dark and sad for me to listen to, most of the time. Ghosteen, where Nick is a bit more distanced from his grief and can see things a bit clearer, is a bit easier to digest, although no less tragic. Still, this is among his very best work

I have no fucking clue what you're trying to say here. How is Murder Ballads at all "melancholy" and how is it an accurate comparison to this album which came out way later under much different circumstances and represents an artist at a much different point in their life as well as being a much different song writer? Are these the only two Nick Cave records you have heard? Please tell me how "And I'll crawl over fifty good pussies just to get to one fat boy's asshole" compares at all to "They told us our gods would outlive us, but they lied". It is certainly more melancholic but mostly anything is in comparison to Murder Ballads so what is the point in using that album to compare this to?
