A question for those that may know: What would have been Finn's influences on this album? I'm not sure about the suggestions last/fm gives on whether they're similar people /now/ or the influences that have helped him make the album in the first place. Up until this album I would never have thought myself a fan of this kind of thing, but all of a sudden I love pedal steel guitar country. So, influences for this album? Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can investigate more.
Love love love Clear Heart Full Eyes. Without a doubt better than the last Hold Steady album. He sounds freed, re-energised and relaxed having a break from the band. Reminds me a lot (in spirit rather than in sound) of Ryan Adams album last year. A man enjoying the chance to do his own thing.
As a massive fan of The Hold Steady, I really wish I could write home about the solo album. However, each time it ends I end up thinking, "This is pretty good. Not bad, but not the best thing he's done." Decent album, but I was expecting to be taken to the moon by it.
"The door was locked so we knocked on the next one,
and here's this guy he's got a bullet proof vest on.
Says you guy's look desperate..I'll give you an address,
Says you guy's look gorgeous..dig all that blistex"
