  • musical history

ive seen several of these around and thought id do one, cause theyre fun to read and ive been very nostalgic lately anyhow.

childhood: i was raised on country music. my father was a country/bluegrass musician and my mother was obviously a fan of such things as well so that is what i knew as a child. not too much current/popular country, more like Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. that and random ballad and cheeseball artists (which may explain some of my current favs) like Whitney Houston and Rod Stewart. if my father hadnt of died when i was three, i probably would have ended up even more heavily involved in country.

middle school: 7th grade was when i can say i really starting paying attention to music, more then likely cause everyone else did and i wanted to connect more with my friends. at the time most of my friends were in band and like ska, punk, and swing. so i had quite a bit of exposure to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy,Green Day, and The Brian Setzer Orchestra throughtout middle school. …

so..your supposed to list your top 50 artists and talk about how you came across them. this is gonna be a great time killer for me.

i first saw them on kouhaku utagassen 2005/2006. i thought they were some crappy gimmick band and proceeded to ignore. sometime later i ended up with a copy of 愛 羅 武 勇 that i didnt listen to, i dont think i even unzipped it. i somehow found myself on one of thier videos on youtube during the worst most guilt-ridden time of my life and it made me laugh when i was so miserable.

when i started listening to 氣志團 the whole of my music taste changed and i started getting interested in artists that id seen connected to them. one of his songs was used in kishidan elvis was our sempai fake backstory thing and i thought it was the cheesiest thing id ever heard. that and i had no idea what the sex of the singer was 6_6

i actually got interested in him after seeing shimotsuma monagatari/kamikaze girls. after hearing him mentioned i read up on him a bit and got terribly curious.
  • Music that makes you ask, "WTF?" - Extreme Strangeness

    15 jan. 2006, 16h45m par OnionPalac

What is an artist or album that when you hear it you can't help but ask the question, "What the fuck?"
In other words - extreme strangeness, bizaar, weird to the highest degree.
Not necessarily very obscure things or Mike Patton's discography (for some reason I get both alot when I ask this question) but seriously fucked up but very great and listenable music.

Below I threw together a list of artists that comply coupled with a suggested album:

Adachi Tomomi Royal Chorus - Yo
    After Dinner - Editions
Asa-Chang & 巡礼 - Jun Ray Song Chang
The Blue Men with Rod Freeman - I Hear A New World
The Boredoms - Soul Discharge '99
Bruce Haack - Electronic Record For Children
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
    Cromagnon - Orgasm
    Frank Zappa - Lumpy Gravy
    Flaming Lips - Zaireeka
Friar Tuck & His Psychedelic Guitar
    Ground Zero - Plays Standards
Harry Partch - Delusion Of The Fury
    Naked City - Torture Garden
    Maja Ratkje - Voice
    Os Mutantes - Os Mutantes
Pink Floyd - The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
  • xiu xiu, my little airport & childish music

    three more recent cd purchases:

because i was too nervous at that time - My Little Airport
i've been wanting this ever since i'd heard that they had released a second album. finally, i was able to find it here in taipei. i think the first single gigi leung is dead is my favourite track off the album, but i'm still taking it in proper. when i bought it i learned that they will be back in taipei on dec. 10th performing at the wall. it's rare that anyone i want to see comes to taiwan so i'm really looking forward to it!

    childish music - various artists
i picked this up after listening to some of it on a listening station. a comp of music that is mainly electronics. it's supposed to be modelled after kids music, but it seems to lack strong enough melodies to really be true children's music. even if it may fail on that front the music is interesting and features a few bands i'm familiar with - Sketch Show, World Standard, Asa-Chang & Junray as well as a lot of bands i've never heard of but which i'm curious to hear more. …
