Description

Cavan Moran knows something you don’t. That’s clear from the word go. But if you listen carefully, he just might start to let you in. ‘She is the one who knows how many grains of sand are on the beaches,’ he sings, in an all too knowing manner that leads you to believe that he too could have a good guess.

Formerly of Manchester folk troubadours These Eyes Are Cameras, who packed bars from New York to Paris and back again, Cavan is a wandering soul, both mind and body, who recently packed up his shit and hit the road through Europe for the third time this year, stopping only to break a few hearts and win over a few more.

His music is haunting yet endearing. Like a ghost you don’t want to go away, or a dream you keep closing your eyes and waiting for.

This show marks the release of Cavan’s new EP, Five Simple Crimes, which will be available in October online and on limited edition vinyl. This gig will also be a homecoming following Cavan’s tour of France.

Main support comes from Hannah Geeorgas. Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, the songwriter has recently released her self-titled debut album. Heavy on the electronics, but not the electronica, Hannah Georgas harks back to a time when hookiness was the order (or New Order) of the day, and human emotions (or Human Leagues) ruled, even when the underlying textures tended toward the synthetic. Her principle cohort in this redefining effort was producer Graham Walsh, of the celebrated Canadian band Holy Fuck.

Greg Larkin opens the show. Greg is a Manchester musician and composer who has for the last few years been playing many of the music venues in the North west, and is establishing himself as one of the most skillfull, innovative and imaginative guitarists around.

Takk is an excellent new Icelandic-inspired coffee house on the edge of the Northern Quarter.
