SAT 4TH AUGUST 2012 – OXFORD ART FACTORY - SYDNEY
Niche Productions presents the next instalment of Hold Tight, our blockbuster brand for all things Beats. Following previous editions which have featured the likes of Martyn, Flying Lotus, Silkie, Gaslamp Killer, Jacques Greene, Machinedrum, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie and more, August 2012 sees a monster lineup descend upon our spiritual home of Oxford Art Factory in what will be one of the biggest episodes yet!
jonwayne is one of the newest members of Stones Throw’s burgeoning roster of current LA talent. Making his name as a quirky beatsmith with records like Doodles (recently re-released as Oodles of Doodles), it was soon discovered his prowess on the mic was also somewhat elephantine, as evidenced here on the Quakers collaboration Smoke.
This marks jonwayne’s first visit to Australia and comes ahead of his debut LP for Stones Throw. Enjoy some flips of Disney soundtracks by the man while you wait.
Mono/Poly is a fellow Los Angelian whose beat work has graced such an impressive roster of labels like Warp, Planet Mu and Brainfeeder. His characteristically dark but funky beats have gathered support from the likes of Thom Yorke, Erykah Badu, Mary Anne Hobbs and Benji B and his ability to flip styles in such a way makes him one of the more revered characters in the Beat realm. His newest material is called Golden Skies and looks set to debut on Rodriguez Lopez Productions (The Mars Volta) in September.

Suff Daddy is one of Germany’s most prolific Hip Hop producers from the Melting Pot Music stable. Comparatively an OG, Suff’s production has been blessed by the likes of Slum Village alumni Phat Kat and member Elzhi as well as soul crooner Miles Bonny and neo soul darling Kissey Asplund. Brining the all ‘round head nod, Suff Daddy’s live sets incorporate all of his material including his incredible unauthorised Hip Hop remixes, some of which you can hear, here: http://suffdaddy.bandcamp.com/ not forgetting of course, his brand new album Suff Sells.
MFP’s music features a pulsating soul bellowing out from cosmic jams that is so neck-snappingly sincere, you know it’s special. This introduces the beast from the East, Osaka’s Masaki Konagai aka mindfullpeace aka mfp, who in the age old tradition of hip hop producers, has paid his dues, spending time in the studio shadows putting out various Japanese rap crew and RnB records. But it’s his solo stuff that bangs the hardest. He’s also a member of Japan’s acclaimed Cosmopolyphonic radio crew who are doing their darnedest in supporting the local, outer space beat movement re-affirming Japan’s visionary aesthetic. Check him out here http://soundcloud.com/mfpbeat
For this edition of Hold Tight we lay off on the BPMs somewhat, catching our breath to take note of who’s got next in the realm of Hip Hop and Beats. Don’t miss some of the world’s most exciting producers DJing, laying down beats live and in the case of jonwayne, maybe even MCing.
