Taka Kigawa, piano - performing J.S. Bach's "The Art of Fugue"
Critically acclaimed pianist TAKA KIGAWA will present a solo piano recital on Monday, August 27th, 2012, at 8:00 pm, at (Le) Poisson Rouge. Doors open at 7:00 pm. For this recital, Mr. Kigawa will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s The Art of Fugue, BWV 1080 (complete.)
Taka Kigawa’s five solo recitals at (Le) Poisson Rouge over the past three years were all resounding successes and received enormous critical acclaim from critics and audiences alike. His recital there in August 2010 was chosen as the one of the best concerts of the year by The New York Times. Also his recital in August 2011 at the same venue was picked by Musical America as one of the most notable concerts in the first half of the 2011 – 2012 season.
Although Mr. Kigawa’s repertory is exceptionally wide and varied, Bach’s The Art of Fugue is a specialty of his. He has performed this monumental piece numerous times around the world, and his performances everywhere have been highly praised: “his performance…was sensitive and deeply considered, with its individual lines painted in subtle gradations of color and weight…” (The New York Times); and “His famed take on Bach’s “The Art of Fugue” is ebullient and audacious.” (The Village Voice).
