Australian fans of hip-hop legend KRS-One probably haven’t been holding their breath for a tour from the illustrious rapper. Given KRS-One a) doesn’t fly and b) lives in America, the odds of him ever making it all the way Down Under seemed slim.

But that’s exactly what’s happening, if you’re to believe today’s tour announcement. Not deterred by the aviation industry’s near-monopoly on international travel, KRS-One is chartering a boat to take him all the way from the US to Australia. If you were wondering how long it takes to sail from The US to Australia, the answer is a month.

Given the time it’s going to take KRS to get here, it’s understandable that the tour doesn’t kick off until March. But once he’s ashore, KRS will be hitting Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Sydney.

KRS-One (whose initials stand for Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone) is a pioneer of the US hip-hop scene; incorporating rap, reggae, spoken word and even classical influences into his music. But since the 1980s, KRS has been much more than just a musician: he’s also worked with the UN, lectured at over 500 US universities and published three books, all in service of his passionately-held views on anti-violence and spiritual exploration. Yep, he’s pretty cool.

“Unmissable” is a term that’s bandied around a lot with tour announcements, but seeing as this is the first and surely the last time KRS-One will ever grace our shores, we’d advise against missing this one.

Tickets go on sale nationally on Thursday January 19. Here’s to a scurvy-free journey!

KRS-One tour dates:

Friday March 9th – The Arena, Brisbane
Wednesday March 14th – The Palace, Melbourne
Friday March 16th – HQ, Adelaide
Friday March 23rd – Metro City, Perth
Thursday April 5th – The Enmore, Sydney
