Description

Hey! Manchester has been invited to promote a special free event at the Whitworth Art Gallery, featuring ambient, classical and folk music!

Hey! After Hours is a free event – just turn up on the night!

Responding to themes within the Whitworth Art Gallery‘s current exhibition, Projections: Works from The Artangel Collection, you’re invited join us for an evening of ‘solos’ within the gallery. From Jason Singh‘s ambient soundscapes, made up of layers of vocal textures, to a unique performance of Philip Glass pieces from the RNCM’s Prism Quartet, challenging the conventions of group performance by splitting the string players up around the building.

Liz Green will conclude the night with an intimate performance within the stunning Pilkington gallery. Re-emerging after a three-year lull in releases, Liz releases her long-awaited debut album, O, Devotion!, on Pias in November, preceded on 22 August by a single, Displacement Song. Backed with a loose, lo-fi take on Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen (as made famous by the Andrews Sisters in the 1930s), the track is released on limited edition vinyl via Liz’s new label, Play It Again Sam.

Featuring ground-breaking film and video installations from two decades of Artangel commissions, Projections includes High Wire, Catherine Yass’s multi-screen installation of a vertiginous walk in the sky, Seven Walks by Francis Alÿs and Atom Egoyan’s Steenbeckett, based on the moving monologue from Samuel Beckett’s Krapp’s Last Tape. You’re free to explore these works and others during the evening.
