Description
Hey! Manchester, Now Wave and Onwards! present Graduale Nobili.
Tickets are available from Seetickets.com and on 0871 220 0260. They will also be available on the night at the church.
We’re delighted to be presenting an intimate, unamplified, candle-lit performance by this award-winning, 24-piece, all-female Icelandic choir, who are currently in town collaborating with Björk for her Manchester International Festival residency, Biophilia.
Graduale Nobili was founded in the autumn of 2000. The choir comprises 24 girls who have been selected from among those who have sung with the Langholtskirkja Graduale Choir. The choir’s first CD was issued 2001, presenting lesser-known 20th-Century choral works from Iceland and abroad. Their second CD, issued in 2008, presented Icelandic choir music, most of it composed for the choir itself.
In 2003 the choir won two gold medals at the Vocal Festival in Tampere, Finland. In summer 2009 it took part in the Llangollen Festival in Wales and received silver in Chamber Choir category and bronze in the Female category. In the same competition last year they received silver in Barbershop/Close Harmony and bronze in Chamber.
For several months, the choir has been working with Björk on her next album Biophilia and is performing with her at the Manchester International Festival this summer.
St Philip with St Stephen is one of Greater Manchester’s finest Georgian buildings, situated just seconds from Chapel Street and less than a mile from Deansgate. And it has a bar you’ll be glad to hear!
