ATP announce Fundraiser Event for Friends of Alexandra Palace Theatre on June 23rd

ATP hosting two events at Alexandra Palace in July, with Flaming Lips performing The Soft Bulletin and the Portishead curated I'll Be Your Mirror with Grinderman & PJ Harvey

On July 1st, 2011, Flaming Lips will perform their classic album ‘The Soft Bulletin’ in its entirety as part of ATP’s groundbreaking ‘Don’t Look Back’ series. Dinosaur Jr and De...erhoof will also be joining the line-up performing their own respective classic albums – ‘Bug’ and ‘Milk Man’. On the weekend of 23rd and 24th July 2011 ATP present the first UK I'll Be Your Mirror event curated by ATP and Portishead (who headline both nights) and features acts such as Grinderman and PJ Harvey.

Alexandra Palace was chosen as the venue for both events because its grandeur and history has always held a special place for ATP founder Barry Hogan. Growing up locally, Barry developed a strong affinity with the venue, its Great Hall playing host to a history of special acts and performances, among them Led Zeppelin in 1972, New Order, the Stone Roses, The White Stripes, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, The Pixies, the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd at the epic 1967 kaleidoscopic rave ‘The 14 Hour Technicolour Dream’.

What many people may not know, is that Alexandra Palace has a beautiful old Victorian Theatre within the grounds, next to the ice skating rink. Built in 1875 and originally designed by John Johnson, the theatre is placed on the English Heritage ‘Buildings at Risk’ register and also stands as a Grade II listed building, though applications have been made to raise this status. The Victorian theatre is now in the hands of the ‘Friends of the Alexandra Palace Theatre’ who are campaigning to raise money to restore it, first to a working capacity and eventually back to its original splendour. For more info on the Theatre click here.

In the lead-up to the two events ATP is doing at the Palace, next Thursday 23rd June ATP will hold a special fundraiser event at the Music Palace, Crouch End (N8 9BT) http://www.musicpalacecrouchend.co.uk/ from 6pm-12am at which all profits will go to the Friends Of Alexandra Palace Theatre.

Details Of The Fundraiser...

Entry to the event is free, but a mandatory purchase of at least one £2 raffle ticket will be required upon entry. All raffle ticket donations go to the Friends Of Alexandra Palace Theatre and prizes include ATP goodies including tickets to both events and ATP chalets and donations from local businesses including Haberdashery (a meal and wine for two), Flashback (donating Vinyl, CDs and DVDs and celebrating their 5th anniversary at the store the next day) and Jealous Gallery who have donated a framed Eddie King (artist for The Clash). For a list of prizes (that is constantly been updated) please go to our website. To donate a prize to the raffle, please contact feedback@atpfestival.com

The night will also feature Lord Sinclair’s ATP & Haringey Pub Quiz in which the famed ATP quizmaster will present challenging questions on music, the local area and Alexandra Palace as well DJs Andrew Hung & Benjamin John Power (F**k Buttons), Declan Allen, Barry Hogan (ATP) and The Local DJs.

LocALE tasting

We're also putting a call out to all the serious ale drinkers out there to come and test some real ales from the Redemption and Sambrook’s breweries and to vote on the ones we serve at I’ll Be Your Mirror this year. Partial profits from each pint sold will go to Friends of Alexandra Palace Theatre.
