C’est bien connu, la Norvège produit d’exceptionnels artistes de jazz et, ce soir, c’est un programme double inhabituel qui foulera les planches du Gesù ! Pour la première fois au Festival, le trio In the Country, composé entre autres du pianiste Morten Qvenild (ex Jaga Jazzist), partira le bal avec les pièces de son récent album, Whiteout, oeuvre progressive et planante. Suivra le guitariste Eivind Aarset, accompagné de son groupe Sonic Codex, avec les pièces de son vaste et étonnant répertoire, un échafaudage de pièces électrisantes, d’improvisations vertigineuses en textures, en mélodies et en groove… Ouf !

It’s a well-known fact: Norway produces exceptional jazz artists, and tonight, the Gesù offers a most unusual double bill! For the first time at the Festival, we welcome trio In the Country, featuring pianist Morten Qvenild (formerly of Jaga Jazzist), who open the momentous evening with their latest album, Whiteout, a soaring, progressive work that recalls The Bad Plus for some. Next, guitarist Eivind Aarset, accompanied by his group Sonic Codex, unleashes pieces from his vast, remarkable repertoire, a musical edifice whose electrifying improvisations reach dizzying, melodic, grooving heights!
