Description
The indie music legend that is Calvin Johnson returns to Liverpool! Dirtblonde are organising a special edition of their Liverpool Calling night, which in 2008 brought Calvin to Liverpool for the first time.
Calvin Johnson, from Olympia, Washington (near Seattle) is the founder of K Records and his label and former band Beat Happening are a seminal influence on alternative acts such as Nirvana, Sonic Youth & Hole.
Kurt Cobain was a major Beat Happening fan, and perfomed at a Calvin Johnson radio show, as well as having a K Records tattoo.
Calvin Johnson recorded with Beck and Beth Ditto, and his music and K Records label remain a strong influence in the US indie scene, as the #1 soundtrack for the film Juno (heavily anchored on K Recs artist Kimya Dawson) testifies.
We've all heard of Daniel Johnston, but Calvin Johnson is undoubtedly much better and more influential than him!
Make sure not to miss this fantastic gig - ALL AGES WELCOME!
Support comes from acoustic singer/poet Tom George.
Special guests Emily & The Faves will perform after Calvin, and Dirtblonde will just DJ at the night.
ENTRY £6
PLEASE NOTE: Calvin Johnson will be onstage 8pm sharp
