Shoreditch Church, the warm glow of candlelight, the ethereal sounds of Icelandic quartet Amiina filling the flickering darkness, bringing to life dark and magical 1920s marionette animations...
ANIMAGICA is a one-off special event on December 17th 2009.
Amiina will play their original soundtracks to pioneering German filmmaker Lotte Reiniger's animations of the timeless fairy tales SLEEPING BEAUTY and CINDERELLA in the gorgeous surroundings of Shoreditch Church.
The Icelandic group, best known for their work as Sigur Ros's string section, blend their captivating sounds from a mixture of traditional and non-traditional instruments - including wine glasses and a delicately bowed saw.

We're adding mulled wine and mince pies to ramp up the Christmas magic and general good cheer.
This event was originally commissioned by Branchage for the Film Festival in Jersey last month, and it was such an overwhelmingly popular success that we had bring it to London, and found the perfect, fitting venue for it - Shoreditch Church.
'The magic of Lotte Reiniger's deceptively simple silhouette-style animation finds its perfect home in Animagica... the show captivated audiences. A thrilling mix of old and new, Animagica offers an opportunity to witness a wonderful group bring images from early cinema back to life.' (International Film Guide)
