initial listen is a challenge. its three full discs, 3 hours music which was edited down from 4 hours yet. this is not metal opera but an opera like piece with metal overtones. if you want vovin or sirius b, well this won't be it. but leader chris jonsson is not afraid to experiment, with that comes wins and misses. when you realize the medium that he is writing in, it's a better listen but could be cut by a third and would be aurally more satisfying. but chris is trapped by a complicated story that needs the length to explore all its passages. a lot of opera suffer from this. cd 1 is ok, cd 3 is much better, but cd 2 is has more zzz's than i would want. the mephistophales story is one that composers come back to time again. basically, would you follow an evil person if he made your world right vs a good person that let you use your free will. heavy stuff and chris's solution at the end, f*** it, we all die.

*Very* overly long and gets boring fast. I suppose I can respect the sheer ambition of this project, but it's probably my least favorite Therion album so far.
