Пт 19 Июн – Park Live Festival

Fri 2 Apr – Muse, Silversun Pickups

Silversun Pickups opened and did a great job i felt of getting everyone excited for Muse. They didn't just play and do all that "are you all pumped for Muse?!" bullshit but actually played a good set. I wasn't too familiar with them before the show but i certainly would go and see them again sometime. Nice guitar and vocals. The keys were pretty drowned out as was the bass but the drumming was intricate and by the end everyone was excited to see what else the show had to offer. Muse took the stage next and did not disappoint. The show as Aubert put it would "melt our brains." there isn't too much that can be said that you can't see in the video. You really had to be their though. They played a good range of songs and surprisingly a good amount from Origin of Symmetry. Plug In Baby, New Born, Hysteria along with a few other gems from Black Holes and Absolution. I would have preferred to see Microcuts or Sunburn but for a first Muse show I was well pleased. …

It was a tale of two halves of my week this week, with The National keeping me calm at first, and Iced Earth giving me some classic metal when I needed it the most.

The National had been showing up on multiple Similar Artists stations the passed few weeks, and I finally decided to purchase their Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers album. Slipping Husband has such a resonating and unexpected explosion towards the end of the song, that it overpowered the experience of the rest of the album for me. Everything else seemed mellow, but gritty and real. It struck me as a more serious or deeper Something Corporate album. There's something raw and damaged about the lyrics even if the sound that surrounds it is soothing.

I grabbed the new Killswitch Engage album when I needed a bit more aggression. The new self-titled album didn't disappoint and made a much stronger first impression than their previous album. The Return was my therapeutic release multiple times this week, even if it is one of the slower tracks on the album. …
  • Muse „H.A.A.R.P.“

    5 Abr 2008, 12:34 de Ji_Kvepuoja

Muse yra Didžiosios Britanijos roko grupė, kuri garsėja nepaprastai stipriu vokalisto balsu, nežemiškos kilmės dainų žodžiais (kiekvienam savaip suprantamais ir interpretuojamais), improvizacijos gitara ir bendrai paėmus kūryba kurioje maišomi įvairūs muzikiniai žanrai. Muse jau yra išleidę 4 studijinius albumus ir vieną gyvo garso albumą „Hullabaloo“, „H.A.A.R.P.“ yra antrasis tokio pobūdžio albumas, kuriame sudėtos dainos iš 2007 metų vykusio Muse koncerto Wembley‘e.

Visų pirma manau reikėtų išsiaiškinti ką reiškia ši raidžių kombinacija: H.A.A.R.P. Pažodžiui tai reikštų: High Frequency Active Auroral Reasearch Program. (Arba paprasčiau : H.A.A.R.P yra Aliaskoje įrengtas elektromagnetinių bangų siųstuvų kompleksas, kurio spindulys, naudodamas jonosferą kaip veidrodį, gali pasiekti bet kokią planetos vietą ir daryti poveikį didelėms žmonių grupėms įvairiose valstybėse.) Šitoks Muse pasirinkimas manęs visai nenustebino, tik sukėlė šypseną. …

So, in September of this year, on an Air Canada flight from St. John's to Toronto, I heard Muse for the first time, on the in-flight radio station.

Yeah, yeah. I know. "What rock have you been living under?" I can't even claim North Americanism as an excuse for my ignorance; I'd spent most of the previous year living in Ireland.

Anyway, I was surprised by Muse. I had heard people speak of them before, but I always just sort of assumed they wouldn't be my cup of tea. I imagined soft acoustic strummy indie-esque fare, which can be good (Sufjan Stevens, for instance) or can be very, very bad (a majority of the strummy acoustic indie-darling genre). I mean, come on, they're a trio called Muse ferchrissake. The word connotates soft airy-fairy warbling.

Instead, it was like . . . what would happen if Queen, Radiohead, and Nine Inch Nails were somehow fused by a musical mad scientist. Except, way better than such a formula might suggest (because, by themselves, I'm not overly fond of any of those three bands…

Several people have asked me what exactly it is I dislike about Black Holes and Revelations. Here’s a handy introduction:

    The Cheese Factor

I remember once hearing or reading an Absolution-era interview with Matt on Muse's new lyrical turn. When asked about the feet-reeking likes of 'Best, you've got to be the best' (Butterflies & Hurricanes) he remarked that he wouldn't have written lyrics like that in the early days because he thought they were cheesy.

Er... nothing's changed, Matt! Admittedly Muse have never been known for intelligent, subtle and thought provoking lyrics but, come on, Invincible?! Let's look at the first verse:

    Follow through
    Make your dreams come true
    Don't give up the fight
    You will be alright
