27 Mar 2014, 17:49 de CapricornSun33Introduction - What is Contemporary R&B?
Is there any other genre as misleading and as badly defined as Contemporary R&B? (except for smooth jazz).
- Ask your friend or neighbor what they think of Contemporary R&B and chances he/she will say that it is nothing but "commercial music for the clubs with lots of naked chicks, bling bling and luxury/alcohol brands in the videos".
- Ask your parents and they will probably tell you it has nothing to do with the real R&B.
- Ask a stranger in the street about which Contemporary R&B they are aware of and I can bet they'll tell something like "Rihanna, Chris Brown, Jason Derülo, The Black Eyed Peas, Flo Rida, Pitbull, Lil Wayne, Justin Bieber" or maybe even "David Guetta or Lady Gaga"... :/ In other words, a mix of pop, hip-hop and dance.
A few years ago, the answer would have been pop-rappers such as Nelly or Ja Rule or people like Akon, Sean Paul and Jennifer Lopez. …

Soultracks.com, the most popular soul music website in America, says about “Fire It Up”:
“VenueConnection has topped itself with its biggest pride and joy to date – Fire It Up – which delivers sizzling funk, tasteful slow jams and passionate vocals by Angeles Dorio and Karl Frierson. This offering harkens to jazz funk’s golden era of the late seventies. And thanks to the crisp foundations from drummer/percussionist Miguel Cabana and Javier del Aguila’s swift bass guitar lines, VenueConnection nails all the groove pockets with sheer precision”

After Nas' first two albums on Def Jam, he continued to proceed with more ambitious concepts such as addressing black pride with Distant Relatives with the proceedings donated to Africa to build schools.

Nas also addressed his divorce situation with Kelis in the extended final verse of Strong Will Continue.
Due to low record sales from previous albums just going gold, Def Jam limited Nas' advance on Nas' 10th album, which was supposed to be Lost Tapes Vol 2 (legitimizing the unreleased tracks after Lost Tapes Vol 1). Nas fans are still waiting for the Nas album exclusively with DJ Premier instrumentals since 2007. …

On Street's Disciple, Nas finally was able to release a double disk (refer to I Am...). Nas left Columbia and joined Def Jam to make some of his most ambitious concepts such as risking is reputation to pronounce Hip Hop Is Dead and address racism with his untitled (Nigger) album - Nas was hinting to proceed with some of his controversial concepts on Street's Disciple. Columbia subsequently released a Greatest Hits of Nas and "Ether" was mysteriously absent on the track listing - possibly due to the fact that Jay-Z and Nas mended ties on the Def Jam label.
