... had gained weight, his teeth were rotted and his once-black hair had gone gray.
"She also said she became spooked when he asked her “what she would do if her child came into the room during sex,”". Christ, this man is a fucking nightmare. The fact that he didn't get a life sentence, and could one day get out, sends shivers down my spine.
The problem is that, even though he's in jail, Watkins is credited as a songwriter on their albums. So, if you were to stream/buy their music, or if Lostprophets' music was played on a radio station, Watkins would still get paid. I can see why people don't want to support him (and, by extension, the band). It's sad that the other band members have to suffer the consequences for HIS actions, but what can you do?
I can't bring myself to listen to their music, knowing what Ian did. And what a life is, Lostprophets is the reason why I started to The Cure, my favourite band now (Lostprophets once made a cover of Boys Don't Cry and I listened to original version and I fell in love with The Cure).
Their first two albums were good but they went under a downhill spiral afterwards when they became bland Pop Rock. To me all three of those bands are pretty subpar and dont really have much to do with Lostprophets, except for maybe Hoobastank. SotY are a mediocre late 2000s Post-Hardcore melodramatic Post-Hardcore band. Trapt are an average Alt Rock/Nu Metal kind of band that doesnt do all that much. Hoobastank I know very little about but I cant say that I find them interesting at all.
It took me years to listen to this band again. I finally did recently and I missed hearing the songs for nostalgic reasons, but it's still an uneasy listen because it inevitably pops into my head what the lowlife did.
you can link all the band album names to become part of ians crimes the fake sound of progress (we're working on a new album, but we're not) the betrayed (the band) weapons (cameras and evil intentions) liberation transmission (from Ian in prison) start something (take up interest in little fan girls) lol i should stop.. its time to stop..
ok, whatever Ian did did bad stuff, but that doesn't instantly erase 17 years of their career. people are so fickle and vapid that they can immediately disassociate with a band once ONE member gets convicted but so easily forget 5 albums. FIVE albums, that takes so much work and i like all of them. people are so mentally challenged to not be able to segregate event from music - music is what matters, not drama, i don't defend him, i don't even want to be seen as constituting an opinion on Ian Watkins, but when he WAS around, there was no denying, for me, he had a good voice... I would keep listening to any band I liked despite criminal convictions of members, seriously think about it, as a listener it's not your concern, he's miles away from people in a prison.. i just hate this Social Justice Warrior attitude going around "if you like this band your a kiddy fiddler" no actually im just a listener, his conviction doesn't change the sounds, chill out
deathstar461 - Yeeeeah , no, Ian Watkins was not a scratch on Hitler. You are one of the special snowflake SJW's i'm talking about - creative work is different from crime in that, it's the complete opposite. good things do not always come from good people, I thought you would have worked that out? so what if you were offered a job at a company but you find out the boss CEO likes something taboo, if you were a sensible person you keep working there and get the money because it's better than welfare and you keep your head down and mouth shut - or do you take to your moral high horse, report the guy even though he gave you work and decent pay cheque but you decide to voluntarily become poorer because your opinion it's the "right thing" to do than work for someone "corrupt" - i think you do the latter because you lack thinking skills. same deal with LP, music is in a different dimension, Watkins is not forcing himself onto you through speakers. you are mentally challenged.
gabrielle_lucy - "when you literally hear a sex offender in every song" you are absolutely right but again, you didn't have a problem listening when it was believed he was innocent? if you liked it back in the day then that's just weak reasoning, it didn't "stop" being good music just because he's in prison. The Falling In Reverse singer went to prison, people still listened. It's up to you what you do but to me, creative work; art, music whatever and crime are 2 separate entities. No one is saying they "support" Ian Watkins, he's a scumbag but he was still a good musician, i'd stand behind any band member I listen to who goes to prison because I'm a real fan of music and you are obviously not.
Saying an artist sucked because of their "personal" life is highly unfair. Everybody makes mistakes. Some are just WAY more fucked up and twisted than others. That being said, all of that shit aside. LP was a GREAT band. There may have been insincerity during live shows, but their recordings were GREAT period. Just because you don't like someone doesn't mean you need to bring a bottle of haterade and talk shit. Great music, is great music. Shitty people are shitty people. Sometimes shitty people make GREAT music. Get over yourself Zach.
Nah, trust me... you're talking to someone whose friends with (or at least has had pleasant encounters with well over 100 successful musicians..) If you can sleep at night supporting garbage then that blows... I'd rather support people who I know are real, authentic & genuine. I've done that forever
Anyone who thought THIS was GREAT MUSIC has set an INCREDIBLY LOW STANDARD & I would recommend a doctor just to get your hearing checked & then maybe go see a psychiatrist. The guy was a FRAUD, don't people get that? This isn't ART... it was bullshit entertainment that gave one scumbag a lot of power (for some reason that I'll never know...) they ALWAYS sucked... I've known who LP were since I was 14 years old & the insincerity in the vocals. The high-pitched BITCH vocal performances... it's shit music made by an even crappier individual. I would say it's safe to say he's the worst person in the music industry EVER. I've met & know countless musicians... many with flaws but that asshole's on a level that's 1,000 times more than anyone I've ever encountered.
http://rockrevoltmagazine.com/document-filed-by-judge-in-ian-watkins-case-graphically-spells-out-abuse/ READ THAT...just READ IT & let me know how far into the 13-page document you get. I'd love to know. When you give a TALENTLESS scumbag power & support a vile, scumbags pedophilia... you're almost as bad as he is, in my opinion. People need to be more IN TOUCH & IN TUNE to their bands & just exactly what that music STANDS FOR. The fact the band members were OBLIVIOUS... tells me that they CHOSE to be oblivious...I GUARANTEE SOMEBODY knew SOMETHING. But when you're touring... making records & making decent money I suppose it's easy to "look the other way" Fuck every single one of those guys.
Holy christ please shut up before you make yourself look even stupider than you already look. Just because Ian is a sick fuck doesn't automatically mean every other member is also a sick fuck and it doesn't automatically mean the music is shit. That's just bullshit. If you want to see an ACTUAL band that has no talent whatsoever and are also frauds, just look at Blood on the Dance Floor or 90% of boy bands.
Over the years Lostprophets had 6 other members. 6 other people contributed to the music, music which was and still is great. It's a shame Lostprophets are now kown as "the band with the baby-rapist". It makes me angry, Watkins ruined 6 other guys careers. I feel really sorry for Stu, Lee, Jamie and so on. And it still feels weird to listen to Lostprophets songs. I really like these songs, i still link great memories to em but there's always this odd feeling. Maybe some day, we all can again listen to Lostprophets songs and just appreciate the awesome music. This is what the the rest of the band deserves and not being linked to "this guy".
no devotion just arnt as good unfortunately, their sound is dowdy, dry, dull, outdated, i expected more from them, the lyrics are poor, ian was very clever with lyrics and had the voice but geoff doesn't, it's one of those tragic ironies. their instrumentation has taken a back seat too.
Cmon man Geoff has a way more distinct vocal style and way more range than Ian does. Hes also way more metaphorical with his lyrics than Ian is. Ill admit that his vocals arent as impressive in No Devotion but have you even listened to anything by Thursday? Ian would never be able to pull of songs like I Am the Killer, My Brother the Failure, Autobiography of a Nation, Paris In Flames, or the Sigur Ros cover the way that Geoff does them.
Just stopped listening altogether when I read the news... Figured some day I'd justify listening to the first 3 albums again - that 2006 when Liberation Transmission came out was well before everything so was somehow okay - and that day is today I guess.
