I'm up in the air over these guys. They do write some fantastic pop hooks. Nevertheless, the sound, or maybe the production, is the issue I have. With most of the tracks I've heard from them (they receive a fair amount of air time here), it sounds like the damn Brady Bunch trying to make a record. That day glo early '70's flower crap. It sounds like your being forced to be happy.
The whole concept of this band came after Alex's stint in rehab, living alone in an apartment, sleeping on an air mattress for a year, and having a sort of existential spiritual "awakening"....so yeah, it's pretty different from Ima Robot...but I wouldn't call it disingenuine. I think this album is fantastic, and I think a lot of the tracks have a lot of soul to them. This one is one of the more cute, poppy tracks, but I still like it a lot.
