CAPTAIN STRAYDUM originally began when two friends from Utsunomiya University, Nakatomo Saiya and Umeda Keiske, decided to create a band together. Both of them shared a love of sixties and seventies rock, yet they both agreed that a flair of their own original style should be added to the mix when creating the music. Their individual style is usually shown through the unique lyrics used in the songs. Getting their band name from a minor character in the manga Baki the Grappler by Keisuke Itagaki, CAPTAIN STRAYDUM didn’t really get started until Kikuzumi Moriyoshi joined the band in 2000 after their original drummer left. Signing to Hit & Run Records and Kaze Machi Records (both subsidiaries of Sony Records) in 2002 while watched over by the famous Japanese lyricist Takashi Matsumoto, CAPTAIN STRAYDUM really blossomed during this period, releasing their first major single "Mountain a Go Go Two" in 2004. Since then, the band has steadily pushed out solid releases and developed a significant following over the years. CAPTAIN STRAYDUM has also provided theme songs for the animes Naruto, Gintama, and Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi.
