Since the end of 2014, Arcanus have been playing on Barcelona’s stages and making a name for themselves in the local scene. They were born in the summer of 2014, when drummer Pau Bonet and guitar player Javier Muriel got together to play in a band in their home town. But immediately they knew they had to have their own music project. Soon after, they recruited lead guitarist Víctor Vallespir and singer Oscar S. Gallardo, and the band was finally formed.

After two years of hard work, Arcanus put out their first EP, ‘Ashes’, a taste of the band’s sound, which evolved at a steady pace from their very beginning. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Mr. Ax (Crisix, Obsidian Kingdom, Vivid Remorse) at Barcelona Axtudios in August and September 2016, ‘Ashes’ featured new bassist Denis Fernández (former member of Innvoid and of the Cuban band Alyanza).
‘Ashes’ is a compendium that intertwines the primitive ideas of the groove metal of the 90’s and the roots of a modern really dark death metal. From the first riff of “Emptiness” to the last and diabolical notes of “Infinite Denial”, ‘Ashes’ takes you to the Middle East wars by the hand of “Oceans Of Blood”, to the empty bleakness of “Struggling With Pain” and to the bold forcefulness of “Never Betray”, which was the first song written by Arcanus and stands as the most direct track of the EP. The artwork, created by the Portuguese artist Gustavo Sazes (Arch Enemy, Amaranthe, Morbid Angel), represents Phoenix rising from the ashes of hell.
The band presented their new material in front of a full packed Catalan audience in one of Barcelona’s most iconic venues, Monasterio. After that, Arcanus won the Devilfest and the Lorca Metal Battle, two contests that face bands from all over Spain, and had the chance to share the stage with international acts like Suffocation as well as popular Spanish bands as , W.O.A Metal Battle winners, and Crisix, one of the most known metal bands in the country. Finally, the band presented their newest member, drummer Xavi Cantos, and are now ready to present the world their second album.
