MIGUEL CAMPBELL
Bells & Whistles

The fruits of many years hard work are finally coming to Leeds musicophile Miguel Campbell. Though he’s been making music since the middle of the last decade, as well as running Outcross Records all that time, it’s only more recently has he gotten the international recognition he deserves.

The first to spot his true potential were contemporary crew Hot Creations who snapped up Miguel as a new addition to their family in 2010. Since then he has released his own steamy blend of vocal infused house on said label, as well as
on Hot Natured, Toronto’s No 19 and with lovable NYC crew, Wolf & Lamb. Chief amongst those releases was one of 2011’s standout tracks in the form of ‘Something Special’. A devilishly simple and sensuous tune, it captured the zeitgeist perfectly and was heard on dancefloors all over the planet.

Dancefloors on which Miguel himself has often played himself, in fact: in recent times there have been Hot Natured parties in London, gigs at Warung Beach Club in Brazil on a recent tour of South America, a set at Berlin’s Watergate and
a Crosstown Rebels Party at The Warehouse Project. All this is less surprising given the fact Miguel admits he comes initially from a DJing background.

“I started DJing at my school youth club many years ago” he recounts. “ I played hip-hop when I was younger, but as soon as I began to hit clubs, I saw that house music was the way forward for me. “

Inspiration wise, the likes of Daft Punk and Fred Falke, Patrick Alavi and Matt Hughes all shine through Miguel’s often French house tinted productions and recent remix work for Sony. So too will in-the-know fans be aware that Miguel
is one half of MAM with Matt Hughes, a duo whose disco-tinged output on labels like Wolf & Lamb and FINA is always well received by press and party animals alike. Plenty more remixes (for both Deadmau5 and Flight Facilities) are afoot
for the pair that has also just had a guest show on BBC radio 1.

On a solo tip, Miguel has a full-length work coming on Hot Creations soon, a Miike Snow Remix for Sony and plenty more DJ dates confirmed in clubs big and small. Finally, it seems, the world is catching up with this most modern talent.
