Based in Manchester, D/R/U/G/S is the project of Callum Wright, who has seen his unique brand of warm and euphoric tech-house steadily gain the attention around the UK that it warrants. With his early demos quickly picked up by the blogs, this led to Q, NME, The Fader, Dummy and XLR8R all writing about him, plus plays by Rob da Bank and Steve Lamacq on the air. His debut 12" 'Love/Lust' (Moshi Moshi/Tender Age) sold out, and after touring the UK and Europe extensively, including festival dates at Glastonbury, Bestival, Leeds and Reading, Rockness, plus numerous European festivals, Callum spent the autumn as tour support for dance music giants Digitalism, playing over 20 sold out venues.
After high profile shows early in 2012 such as The Big Chill House in London with xxxy and Disclosure, Callum took a brief hiatus to work on a brand new live set alongside new releases. Now, after a visit to the States for SXSW, he is lining up live shows across the country such as Liverpool Sound City, Camden Crawl and the Vice Issue Launch in Manchester.
May 2012 sees the release of a brand new EP, 'The Source Of Light', which saw it's first play from Zane Lowe on the 18th April (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01g4j7q). Also check out a clip of 'One Thousand Faces' from the same EP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=gjnYwvglsHQ.
We have been getting excited about bringing his engaging live show to Sheffield and can't wait to see him in action!
We picked up on Leeds-based producer James Welsh a couple of months ago and have been looking to bring him over to Sheffield ever since. Interestingly, he used to be in a hardcore metal band called The Rise, and was the electronics man, so it’s perhaps not a huge surprise that his next project was this! His Air Valley EP, which was emerged online in January and saw release through Losing Suki on the 16th April, comprises of 4 tracks of addictively smooth house. It's available digitally or as a purple vinyl 12" (http://www.juno.co.uk/products/air-valley-ep/451804-01/). The upbeat, jazzy vocals and 90s style beat-progression create a lovely summery vibe. A must-see!
Sheffield-based and Jersey-born, Jägerverb has been steadily gaining interest for his dancefloor driven house music, with a release on Gash Digital back in August 2011 ("Pete Carvell's imprint continues to come up with the goods, this time with a hooky dancefloor driver from Sheffield's Jagerverb that comes complete with some great remixes too." 7/10 in DJMag, October 2011), plus more on Top Billin, GND and Dim Mak. He's constantly coming out with great mixtapes, so we're stoked that he's playing for us!
Lukant co-runs burgeoning house night RYAD in Sheffield whilst djing all over the UK and Ibiza too. Amnesia (Cream Ibiza), Sankeys (Manchester), Mint (Teknicolor, Leeds), Silo (Liverpool), Eden (Ibiza), Itaca (Debarture, Ibiza), and DQ (Sheffield) are just some of the many clubs he has played at, including a slot before Eric Prydz at Amnesia.
A good friend of ours, Gus Miller has been exploring/promoting/playing all ends of the house music spectrum, from large progressive to the deep dark minimal sound of the 4 by 4 beat. An accomplished DJ and infectiously fun to watch, he's gained residencies in Newcastle, Leeds and Sheffield over the last few years and it's a pleasure to have him on.
Rounding off the bill will be Banana Hill, playing a mix of Afro-house, carioca and funky house.
