SoundBites, Rich Mix, Saturday 28th January 7.30pm
Tickets £8/£6 – on sale from:
http://www.richmix.org.uk/whats-on/event/soundbites/

After a sell out show at Lyric Hammersmith in September 2011, SoundBites is returning to Rich Mix, in the heart of East London, to feature six of London's most bold and exciting theatre makers and musicians.

SoundBites has created a brand new space for experimentation, which sees music and original theatre coming face to face live on stage for three unique collaborations.

How it works: Two existing tracks by a live music act are sent to each writer and they create a 15 minute play inspired by the music. This music is then integrated into the performance - musicians and actors working together live on stage.

The outcome: always unique!

After the three plays, each music act will do a 20minute featured set, and who knows, it might even turn into a party.

Writers

Alice Birch

Alice has written short plays for Nabokov, The Arcola, Theatre 503 and Old Vic New Voices and has been on attachment to National Theatre Studio. She is currently on attachment to Channel 4 and Paines Plough, and will be attached to the Royal Court Theatre later this year. Her play MANY MOONS is published by Oberon.

Rachel De-lahay

Rachel’s first full length play The Westbridge was joint winner of the 2010 Alfred Fagon award and was produced upstairs at the Royal Court last year. She was a member of the Royal Court Young Writer’s Programme and has been selected as one of the BBC Writer’s Room 10 with the Bush as her partner theatre.

Tom Morton Smith

Tom’s plays include: Salt Meets Wound, In Doggerland (Theatre503), Venison (Yellowtale Theatre Company) Uncertainty, Hygiene Hypothesis (Latitude Festival). He collaborated with composer Jon Nicholls on Blunderbuss (The Theatre, Chipping Norton). He has had short plays and rehearsed readings performed at the Old Vic, Royal Court, Liverpool Everyman, Southwark Playhouse, Arcola and Shakespeare's Globe. He was writer-in-residence at Paines Plough in 2007/08 and is currently under commission to the RSC.

Music

Your Girl Likes Us

London trio Your Girl Likes Us is the combination of an MC, a singer and producer. When they met in college they experimented by fusing their individual musical styles. With Laurie’s beats Courtney “CD Spinz” Dore’s bars and Suzi’s soaring vocals they’ve created a fresh sound which they describe as dirty pop.

Talk in Colour

Formed in 2006 under the name `Shadow Orchestra' by producer and cellist Chris Bangs, London's new gaze quintet blend electronic and organic instrumentation into a blistering aesthetic. By turns dark then uplifting,`Talk In Colour' slip effortlessly between pure instrumentals and vocal driven tracks. The band draw influences from Kraftwerk, David Holmes, Primal Scream, Berlin era Bowie and early Eno to Battles and The XX, taking an increasingly guitar driven approach.

Abdul Shyllon

A talented vocalist and guitarist, Abdul Shyllon is an experimental soul singer and jazz musician. His passion and zeal for music grew as he would mimic those that opened his ear. Abdul's influences span as far and wide as soul, jazz, funk, samba, folk and whatever else you can identify within the rhythm of life. His songs are a reflection of past times and present.

Soundbites is pleased to supported by Beat Unique www.beatunique.com
