What a stupid tag. Not only has it nothing to do with the actual music that these female artists are making, but it explicitly means that if you're an artist who sings and happens to be a woman you only exist in this gender based category. Oh, you make punk rock? You're a female vocalist. Oh, you sing jazz standards? You're a female vocalist.
Tag 'female vocalists' at first it fulfills its purpose to serves for better guidance in the case of age-related hearing loss. In this way deaf people are given the opportunity to visualize their favorite songs, even if they are not allowed to listen to them. We're all getting old and will be glad about helpful tags in last.fm. Please donate small amounts to purchase batteries for hearing aids and ear cleaner. :)
A taste that goes admittedly unusual, but I intuitively affirm your concern provided that no portly woman feels discriminated against. Nobody would like to anger the female animal protection, just mentioned in passing. :)
Oh that's a weight off my mind. I have just come across an experience. A friend of mine recently peed at a female tree. Soon after, he got a penalty notice from the female nature conservation authority. He had to pay his last 30 female euros, now he only has male euros, that means his money can not multiply because a breeding was impossible. What a crazy world.
Finders keepers, losers weepers. Apart from this phrase I feel that kind of categorization equated with blatant distinctions of races, religions, gender orientations, creeds, and I see in it a serious breach of rules in last.fm. I am convinced that the controversial term "female vocalists" was created to build walls between the sexes. It is necessary to ensure that no battle of the sexes will take place here. We should also fight against racist activities by all available means!
Everyone bitching about this tag is fucking stupid, it's a useful tag to find bands/musicians with female vocals which like it or not are rarer than male vocals especially in the commonly accepted critical pantheon which skews heavily towards male artists.
You old wiseacres you believe to have gotten spoon-feeding worldly wisdoms all along the line. The only thing you get right, it's to run down other people, you tight-fisted wanker. People who do not share your childish opinion you call stupid, what time are you coming from, thin dicked sicko?
I am an open mind towards older generations, but music magazines like the Rolling Stone really belong to a bygone era, along with their farfetched statistics. That big yawn doesn't knock anyone's socks off. Next you can read aloud from a fairy tale book, that appears more credible to me.
We need "Female vocalists" category if we need to find songs and artists with female voice. For example I like beautiful female voice and often search such songs in different languages. It's convinious to separate them. It's not a sexism, just sorting :-)
right there in the description "This tag is not limited to any one musical genre or era." same with how singer-songwriter can range from pretty much anything, you guys shouldn't take this so seriously. just an easy way for people to find lots of female singers.
