Hendrix wrote one lenghty piece and had more talent in it than Rush in their whole discography. ^^

In a genre of its own. I love the aquatic instrumental break with what sounds like a journey through an underwater arbour, festooned with greens & blues and flickering movements like shoals of fish.

I have to buy this album on vinyl, the sharpest drag to sex. [2] Just did and yeah, it really is.

my favourite Jimi's song, great example of the ethereal, magical side of his music, which I favour sooo much!

Someone on here told me after my comment that it's actually Hendrix on bass on this track.. I bet the man would be a genius on every string instrument if he was still alive now

Possibly my favorite Hendrix track. Electric Ladyland was his greatest artistic achievement IMHO.

Simply amazing... I often wonder what the music scene would've been like if Jimi were still alive today.

"Compare "Machine Gun" (a non Mitch song) to anything w/ Mitch.." Mitch is amazing on this track but it would be very stupid to compare Buddy Miles to Mitchell. Miles is all about the groove.

That said, not much else needs to be said of Jimi...unparalleled o'course. But Mitch Mitchell is so sadly unrecognized...he is probably the best drummer that ever lived. He shows much of that here. His cymbal work is absurd on this piece. His drumwork on this is knockout quality, but you can see that also on the other two studio albums with crystal clarity. Neal Pert (Rush), George Hurley (Minutemen & fIREHOSE), and other drummers, while awesome, can't hold a candle to Mitch. He played the kit like it was an "instrument", not an elaborate metronome. The man was just crazy good. Compare "Machine Gun" (a non Mitch song) to anything w/ Mitch...it gives you a sense of just how much MM contributed to Jimi's SONGS. MM didn't just back up Hendrix...he more than held his own and usually SHINED like a sun gone supernova!

If I was forced to choose 5 secular albums to keep me occupied for eternity, EL would be in without a second thought. Being a double album helps, but it's mainly for this song. Its length (13:39) helps too, but it has such depth (pun not intended, but appropriate) that its majesty simply prevails. This song wreaks of both peace and power. Of course, EL has "All Along the Watchtower" too...one of the best songs ever recorded.

Well, in a sense the whole album is grossly underrated, but this track is as well in particular. Competes with Voodo Chile as my favorite track on the album.

yes, it sounds like the unforgiven II riff... but hell this song is much more better.

Holy hell, this sounds so familiar but this is the first time I've heard it. Am I going crazy or has someone "borrowed" a part from this song and claimed it as theirs? :-/
