Really missing these dudes, re-listening in 2023. They had such a thoughtful and heavy sound. It's a shame they split up.

They're back! From their web: "For nearly six years, TEXTURES have disappeared after their farewell show. However today, the pioneering Dutch metal six-piece is happy to announce their reunion and return to the festival stages during the summer of 2024, while they are writing and recording a new album."

New album is solid, no holding back on the heavy parts for this one. I found Dualism to be a very one dimensional experience. Drawing Circles still probably my favourite.

I gave up on this band when I was less mature and.. hm, tolerant? for progressive/technical sound. The only album which caught my attention was 'Dualism', for quite easy-listening "Reaching Home", the others I listened once and forgot. And today I went back, and listened Drawing Circles, based on your comment. Thanks for showing me really nice side of Textures :>

"Phenotype" is full of references to old songs from previous albums. Sometimes they aren't as obvious as it seems, and maybe only older fans can assimilate them at first listening. Considering myself part of this "older fans" group, I can say it's very enjoyable when some seconds of a given song reminds you to the "old" Textures. Even though, "Phenotype" is the proof that a band can reinvent musically (even changing some band members) but keeping its own essence which makes it unique.

Album is pretty dynamic and interesting. The first half is really brutal and straight, while the second half seems to be more reminiscent of their newer stuff. Sadly the album isn't as long as I would've hoped and I don't get the reason for putting a "song" like "Meander" on an album. Other than that it was really convincing, so it might be a decent 8/10.

"Just heard the mix of the first track of the new TEXTURES album. Another 7 minute rollercoaster. Lots of stamping double bass morphing into hyped up Slipknot-like up-tempo's, finishing in minutes long Devin epicness. My heart cannot catch up with my excitement ! I'm so curious what you guys will think about it." From Stef on Facebook.

lol sometimes when I listen to this band I can hear the Meshuggah influence so loud it almost drowns out the actual music

I started with Drawing Circles. Maybe the best choice to get into this band. Silhouettes needs to grow on me. 4 good songs so far, but many songs feel a bit uncontrollable and same-ish to me and the screaming vocals sometimes get me tired. I guess it's one of those albums that could explode if it unfolds.
