Agreed about the female vocals on the new slab, they're a blight on what is otherwise a great album. I feel they could have included at least a couple of longer songs in here somewhere to round the album off instead. Still, I'm replaying most of the album since its release. Eternal Defiance was definitely a stronger offering in contrast, IMO.
Well i dont exactly dislike the female vocals, but there is just way too much of them in this album. Not decently added like on Crogacht. Not bad album though, but i see kind of downgrade trend from their best years, which is for me until Crogacht (included), and thats kinda worriyng.
"Realms Of Odoric" album is soo good. Suidakra needed another guitarists just to took part of work from Arkadius. Many more melodic stuff which we all love. Less flatness and more interesting songs. And I love some femele vocals as a fan of Birog Oath song. Braving The End bring this magic back. 8/10 and might be more from time perpective.
This new album would be alright if not for those obnoxious femvocals. The entire middle part, starting with undaunted and ending with braving the end, is a fucking joke. At least it's better than the garbage that was Eternal Defiance, but it's not like that's a very hard thing to do.
yeah its not half as good as id hoped. dont like tina stabel vocals on any of the songs this time around either. the songs all sound like they're mainstreamed up type hard rock arrangements with all these orchestral elements in every track... not very good. kinda gives me a feel of nightwish, lacuna coil, amaranthe or similar type bands at times.
I don't agree at all, I've tried and tried to get into Eternal Defiance but it just isn't working, nothing hooks me in at all. Not only is it less folky but also sorely lacking on the melodeath side of things. And yeah I agree with Darth_Roxor that they've over-used the female vocals. The sound is also horribly compressed which really doesn't help.
I'm disappointed as well. It seems Eternal Defiance is to Book of Dowth what Crógacht was to Caledonia: basically a rehash that recycles lots upon lots of stuff from the previous album, but doesn't manage to sound even half as good. It's "just" alright, instead of great. Also, they've seriously, SERIOUSLY overused the female vocals on this one.
I had high hopes for this album after reading some positive reviews and you guys' comments. But I have to say I'm disappointed. Muddy production and nothing memorable, and a few overly cheesy moments. But I thought Book of Dowth was their best album and it seems some of you don't like it much.
huge improvement over book of dowth. so far sounds like a mix of crogacht atmosphere&riffs and caledonia atmosphere. not to say its a total rehash of older albums, there is clearly a new element in suidakra's sound that isn't revolutionary but is new&refreshing to hear in suidakra.
Eternal Defiance really lived up to and surpassed my expectations. I like it even better than Book of Dowth. I would have been happy with it if it was even close to Book of Dowth. I like every song on the album.
So new record has leaked and it's amazing. Brilliant guitar and vocal aggression, wall of sound, lots of amazing riffs and leads, some great, almost galloping tracks with lots of folk tunes. And though half of the album is mid-tempo stuff, it's no worse, whole lot of electric and acoustic details in songs like Rage for Revenge or Dragon's Head. The album is crowned with a furious streamroller named Defiant Dreams, haven't heard such a relentless guitar onslaught in some while. Arkadius' screams are crushing as always and the amoung of cleans, incl. Tina, is limited to a degree which is a good thing for me. The only weak track here is the horrible ballad The Mindsong. Everything else is nearing flawlessness. Undaunted comeback after the dullness of Book of Dowth. 8/10
indeed! that was my point, about command to charge. they didn't balance themselves for awhile in the past, & i agree crogacht is their perfect album. i love tina stabel! glad to hear she's in more songs! isle of skye was one of my favorites from crogacht.
