  • My Ultimate Dream Band - The End All

    21. Mär. 2006, 22:10 von MrModernRock

Okay, I already make two dream band journals; one for classic rock and one for modern rock. While I still believe I made up a pretty good line-up (even if there are some cop-outs in there) I still felt like something was missing. While I could imagine both bands coming together and having an awesome sound and producing awesome music, something never really clicked with me. Call it passion, soul, chemistry, I'm not sure what it was that wasn't clicking, but the more I thought about them, the less I was intrigued by it. So, for once and for all, I've decided to come up with MY no-holds-bars ultimate dream band.
*Note: This list is based on my favorite artists/bands and as such I doubt very many people will agree with the choices. Oh well*

    Vocals

John Fogerty of Creedance Clearwater Revival - When I made up the classic rock dream band, John Fogerty completely jumped out of my mind and went to have a drink, only to come back and remind me that I had forgotten him. …
  • Album Review : One Way Ticket To Hell......And Back - The Darkness*****

    21. Mär. 2006, 11:26 von Yorkshiremike

And not before time, it's about two and half years, and 3.5 million sales of the last album. It's a long wait for some new material, is it worth it ? Well, waiting time gripe done with, I have another moan, it's only 35 minutes long, bloody hell lads, what happened to the long songs ?

There are ten pop song length tracks on the album and when I first listened to 'One Way Ticket..' I must admit I thought 'Oh dear'. I have persevered though, and the album has grown and grown on me.

OWT isn't quite as hard rocking and riffy as Permission to Land, which is a shame, but with producer Roy Thomas Baker on board (credits include Queen, Bowie, Free, Foreigner, Journey, Yes, Santana, The Who, Frank Zappa and did I mention Queen ?) the musical style had become a little more complex and he has certainly put Jutin's vocal talents to good use, there is no shortage of improbably high pitched wailing on OWT.

Lyrically, you could say either deeply silly or just very entertaining, The Darkness don't have a message to push…

    Bambibanda E Melodie - Bambibanda e Melodie

Here's an Italian band with a fairly long name that doesn't translate as something goofy like "Inn of the Fairies" (you know who you are). In fact, I don't think it really translates at all, as it's related to guitarist Pier Nicolò "Bambi" Fossati's nickname. I don't know how he came by such a nickname - presumably it's from the adult stag Bambi rather than the shy fawn, unless the word means something else entirely in Italian. But I digress.

Fossati is obviously a huge Jimi Hendrix fan, though honestly this comes off more like Pink Floyd or Robin Trower (maybe crossed with Santana) than Hendrix.

Which of course makes it pretty different than all the other Italian music I've heard from its time (1974). Fairly long tracks featuring guitar solos, with solid backing from rhythm section (with congas and whatnot) and keyboards. Not that much singing.

Fossati was previously in Gleemen and Garybaldi, but those bands escaped having his nickname right out front. …

okay, so this week seems to be a more typical week than the last few weeks, which saw a large number of plays from a large variety of artists....although there was a large variety of artists this week, there was not as many plays, mostly because i wasn't home as often

    anyways, here's the recap:

1)Radiohead- Wow, how'd this happen? lol, apparently my binge lasted longer than I thought....many plays from the usuals, The Bends, Pablo Honey, OK Computer, mixed with a little Kid A and Hail to the Theif.

    2) Tool - The streak continues! Lateralus and Ænima mainly....

    3) John Frusciante - The Will To Death is definitely one of my favorite albums. I can't play it just once in a day, must play it many many times to get my Frusciante on.

    4) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Hey, no surprise here, they're definitely making a name for themselves on my charts!

    5) The Mars Volta - Decided to give these guys another shot and got Deloused at the Comatorium. …
