• My "Stadium Arcadium"

    30. Apr. 2009, 15:19 von Atax!a

As a fan of the Peppers' old stuff I thought about the Songs on "Stadium Arcadium" for a long time. Actually i don't like nearly half of the songs. I do not have anything against the development of a band's sound and their songs. But there are so many disappointing songs on "Stadium Arcadium" that I stopped listening to the Peppers for a while. Before the album was released the Peppers were my favourite band but now they are just one among others.
And now nearly two years after its release I finally have the needed distance to get to a sophisticated opinion. So I decided to find out which songs are irreplacable for me on a good or even perfect "Stadium Arcadium". Here we go:

    1. 21st Century
    2. She's Only 18
    3. Charlie
    4. Stadium Arcadium
    5. Hump de Bump
    6. Storm in a Teacup
    7. Torture Me
    8. Wet Sand
    9. C'mon Girl
    10. Animal Bar
    11. Especially in Michigan
    12. Hey
    13. We Believe
    14. Turn It Again
    15. Death of a Martian

Stadium Arcadium, the Red Hot Chili Peppers most recent LP, was originally planned to be released as a three-album series over a year's time. The Stadium Arcadium b-sides, later released on the Dani California, Tell Me Baby and Snow ((Hey Oh)) EPs, were to be included with the album releases on these albums.

In mixing the album, the band members and producer Rick Rubin decided to release a double-album with 28 tracks, subtracting 10 tracks that were scheduled to be released originally.

As many fans may agree, there are some great tracks on Stadium Arcadium (and the b-side EPs) but there is little coherence or flow to the album. It is essentially a randomly ordered set of musical indulgences for the Chili Peppers.

After acquiring the b-sides, I thought it would be interesting to throw them into the mix and split the tracks between three playlists, essentially creating my own three-album release. The following is what I came up with. …

Red Hot Chili Peppers / "Turn It Again" / Stadium Arcadium Disc 2 (13) / May 2006

    Artist: Red Hot Chili Peppers
    Original Album: Stadium Arcadium
    Track: Turn It Again

Probably latest post ever, but this weather we've been having is waaaay to nice to be wasting away on the internets...first truly beautiful weekend we've had in Cleveland since sometime last year.

And that's what had me spinning a ton of the RHCP yesterday. Seems like I always get into a mood for the Peppers when the weather really breaks nice, and this is my favorite RHCP album. Last time I pulled a track from this was last spring - a bit too long of a gap, but illustrates my point. Since that was a cut from Jupiter, this time we visit Mars.

To me, the voice of Anthony Kiedis singing their crazy lyrics is the embodiment of all that left-coast wonderfulness, which is so ironic since he's originally a midwestern boy! Being a dyed-in-the-wool midwestern biy myself…
  • Songs I Loved in College

    19. Feb. 2008, 6:11 von Rambaldi47

I'm about to graduate, and I was thinking back on all the songs I really liked over the last four years. Some were new at the time, some were already old then. So, what follows is a list of my favorite songs during college (2004-2008)...

    Better Now
Collective Soul is my favorite band, and this was their big comeback single. I played the hell out of Youth during freshman year.

Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of moving into my dorm.

    Forbidden Love
Best song off Confessions on a Dance Floor, my most listened to album of sophomore year. Plus it carries a personal significance.

Shania's last big single, and it's the only bummer by her I can think of.

    Ordinary World
I saw the video for this on VH1 Classic and immediately downloaded it.

    Bleed Like Me
I have increasingly obsessed over Shirley Manson these last few years. This was the first Garbage song I would play on repeat. And it makes me think of the end of freshman year.

    Red Hot Chili Peppers

    Won't somebody come along
And teach me how to keep it alive?
    To survive.

Come along and show me something
That I never knew in your eyes.
    Take away the tournicate.

I used to be so full of my confidence,
I used to know just what I wanted and just where to go.
More than ever I could use a coincidence,
But now I walk alone and talk about it when I know.

    Hey, oh yeah, how long?
I guess I ought to walk away,
    Hey, oh yeah, so long...
    What you gonna do today?

I don't wanna have to, but I will,
If that's what I'm supposed to do.
We don't wanna set up for the kill,
But that's what I'm about to do.

Later on, I'll cut you off when you're screaming into the phone.
    Hard to own.
Anyway, I wanna let you know that everything is on hold.
What you gonna do to me?

You used to be so warm and affectionate.
All the little things I used to hear my fairy say,
But now you're quick to get into your regret.

Float On - I really like this cover. Probably even better than the original, just becuase Modest Mouse hasn't impressed me (yet). This one seems a lot more upbeat, but still remains a bit similar to the original. 5/5

Down At The 303 - I like the reggae feeling of this one. Unfortunately, the Cat Empire hasn't really hit it off with me yet. If more of their songs were reggae-ish, and with less brass section, I might like them a bit more. But for right now, they're a bit too ecclectic. 3/5

The Heart of Life - Oh, man. This song was adorable. I love it, especially because it's not so cliche-I'm John Mayer-type. The vocals are really pretty, and I like the simple guitar accompanying them. This makes me more excited about blowing $30 on his show with Ben Folds in June. 5/5

Darling please come home - This one reminds me of someone, I just can't place who. Maybe the vocals remind me of Belle & Sebastian? Anyways, it's nice, but not "wow!". Cute guitar, and the vocals are good as well. 4/5
