orden ogan comes to me as a recreation of the "golden age" of power metal, but that also is not what i look for in "power metal" in 2015. there is no ground being broken. you're appealing to the rosy tinted nostalgia of when certain acts moved you to a certain point. if you cannot listen to "The Holy Grail" or "Sacred Mind" and realize the talent and emotion of BG and, dare i say it, the appeal to the classic fan, you're lost.
if orden ogan churned out the same shit for 10 albums straight they'd be criticized. BG are criticized for not churning out the same shit over and over. orden organ are essentially emulating a more choral savage circus, who were already imitating pre 1995 BG.. and while i love what orden ogan are doing, there's nothing novel about it. they'll either change up their approach to the genre, which they're doing fuckall to innovate, or they'll die off. doesn't seem like they're increasingly successful like BG, at least, even as their "hardcore" fans shit on them.
I'm not even really a fan of power metal, but this band is one that I think everyone can find something in that they enjoy. Ravenhead is great and one of the strongest releases of 2015 thus far. "F.E.V.E.R." just might be one of the most infectious songs ever recorded.
