• Melvins roadie for a day/bring colouring pens to your next Flipper concert

    18. Dez. 2006, 5:03 von JamieDeath

I may not be as concert savvy as the next tight-trouser wearing, greasy-haired drop out but I know I will never forget The Melvins Big Business Flipper and PORN (The Men Of) concert at The Village, Dublin 16/12/06.

This could be because the music was loud, the people were excited or because there was a 5 foot nothing girl walking around in a Santa Claus outfit. But in actual fact it had nothing to do any of that. Let me set the scene.

It's four thirty on a cold December afternoon in Dublin City and I'm making my way up the street to the venue. I can hear some random beats of a drum and I'm already hooked. The front doors are locked so I stroll through to the bar. I can hear the muffled thuds getting louder as I walk further into the bar until I reach a small passage. Natural curiosity drew me in.

I follow the path up a stairs. A quick glance back and I see a frowning man in a blue shirt locking the door behind me. I get to the top of the stairs and a man looks me up and down and begins to say something…

The best show I've ever seen. Here Buzz had joined Flipper for Sacrifice. Coady of Big Business and Dale also joined. It was quite bizar and the Melvins were the best that night. I feel euphorically and weird now.
  • I Can't Wait For Melvins

As you may be aware, me and my good buddy Awesome Wells went to Dublin recently and we were planning on going back over next month to see Melvins.
However, finances (eg it being the run up to Xmas, my girlfriend's birthday being Xmas Eve etc) meant that for me, at least, it was a no-no, so we've decided to go to Manchester to see them instead.
I was checking U:MACK's site for upcoming gig news in Dublin (because it's such a great easy to get to place) and read about the upcoming Melvins show:

The Melvins are headlining u:mack's xmas party! They are now officially a four-piece. The new members are Jared Warren and Coady Willis, the guys from Big Business. They have double everything this time. Double drums. Double, triple and even quadruple vocals, double bass and guitar... Well, not really double bass and guitar but... DOUBLE DRUMS everybody! This will be super colossal and totally beyond reason.

I have a hard time writing. I'm a drawer. I've been drawing since I was a little kid. I couldn't pay attention in class because I was drawing so much.

  • Courtney Love Sells Piece of Nirvana Catalog

    3. Apr. 2006, 21:43 von medulaespinal

From the fucks over at Pitchfork:

"Confirming rumors running amok on the web for months, Rolling Stone reports that Kurt Cobain's widow, rock and roll trainwreck Courtney Love, has indeed sold 25% of her share in the Nirvana publishing catalog, for over $50 million. The buyer? Not Bono or Martha Stewart, but some guy named Larry. Larry Mestel, that is, formerly an executive at Virgin Records and currently of Primary Wave Music Publishing. This is what he looks like.

"I took on a strategic partner, Larry Mestel, to help me co-manage the estate because it was overwhelming," the former Hole frontwoman said. "I needed a partner to take Kurt Cobain's songs and bring them into the future and into the next generation. And this guy's the guy to do it."

Mr. Mestel's intentions, however, are pure gold: "Kurt was an incredible songwriter, and Courtney is an exceptionally talented person herself. So I felt the combination of Courtney's creativity and the…
